  A New Orleans rapper in the early 90's popularized twerking in the hip-hop community. Ying-Yang Twins took it to the next level in 99-2000. Lil Jon took it mainstream in the early-mid 2000's. Twerk Team made it an internet trend on youtube a few years back. Social media site Vine gave people (with lots of free time) 6 seconds to capture the attention of the internetz. They used those 6 seconds to the best of their ability, giving the internetz 6 sec twerk clips & 6 sec clips of douchebags putting whip cream on their hands and smacking the shit out of their little sisters (Smack Cam). Miley Cyrus signed up for Vine. Faced with two options; smack cam or twerk, Miley put on a unicorn onesie and dropped that ass as low as she could. Jay-Z mentions Miley twerking in a song titled "Only In America" from his latest release MCHG (Nearly 2million copies sold). With MTV & CNN coverage, Miley becomes the new face of twerking.
