I beleive these people many be reasoning, perhaps semi-consciously, as follows:
The money is buying me time. During that time she will get to know me and like me, so it will be worth it in the end.
Thus they think that by spending the stripper gets to know them better and this decreasing the risk of rejection which they will have to face at some point.
This strategy is rarely effective (although I have heard of cases of it working).
