From what I can tell, declaring a club 'closed' does not remove it from the database. Only the link from the list of clubs goes away. One club I reviewed last year is aparently now closed and I can still link to it through my old reviews.
CT - I think that there may be a cut of date. Anything too old gets deleted. The last time I checked the review count for "thisoldmanplayed1" he had 249. I just checked again and it is down to 233.

I had something similar happen when a club closes or maybe when Founder removes the listing.

Though 69 is admirable, I wonder how long until another of mine 'evaporates'? When I joined I wrote up a bunch at the same time.
