Memphis Meet Up

I write it like I mean it, but mostly they just want my money.

TUSCL members and participants are codially invited to join in a meet-up in Memphis, Tennessee, some time in August.

Time, date, specific place, and other details still to be determined. Who's in? I am in! (Unless something comes up, of course, but I don't expect it to.) Below are my preferences. I'm happy to acquiesce to the group's preferences in the end, but this is what I'd LIKE.

I don't want to spend more than about $55 a night for a cheap but chain or chain-like hotel.

I will spend mornings at a Waffle House. I will perhaps shop in downtown Memphis (wonderful tobacco shop, the Memphis Tobacco Bowl, smack in the middle of the skyscrapers).

And I want to attend Platinum Plus, definitely; Christie's, definitely; and any places that others have a good recommendation about.

Any time this month (August), but no later. I would prefer not to stay in Tunica, since gambling bores me, though I will acquiesce to the group consensus when it comes to that. I will book my hotel separately in any case, as we all will. (Unless we get enough participants to get a group rate, LOL!)

I prefer a few weekday nights, plus a few weekend nights, perhaps a cascading overlapping set of consecutive evenings.

Your thoughts? Who's interested?

Well, we'll try again. The Dolls place is on my radar now. And yeah, that business contact has heard the scuttlebutt about me from my previous employers, who (evidently) have been using me as their scapegoat for the better part of a year and thus have torpedoed my capacity to perform any work in this industry in this region at all, ever. The trip to Memphis was more to confirm this suspicion, than anything else. Grr ...

Nope, sorry. Meeting didn't go well, interview / client contacts were all but arrogantly dismissive. I'll be heading back home, out of Memphis, before the candle-light vigil beings. :) More specifically, I'll be leaving Memphis Tuesday (today) morning. Sorry.

Found myself in Memphis at the end of the weekend. I'll be here over Monday night, maybe over Tuesday night. If anyone can find me, I'll try to have my pipe with me. Tobacco smoking pipe, that is. Come find me at PP or Christie's or Pony, most likely. If anyone wants to post more specifics (in time for me to get 'em) then maybe I'll be able to find you.

Regarding this new schedule -- late September or early October -- I might not be able to comply, and will have to play it by ear. I generally don't know about my own availability until a week in advance. By then I might not be living in Jackson any more, so I will leave it up to the rest of you to arrange.

One thing that I would suggest is that early October maybe a Sunday Monday Tuesday would be great. We could get good rates at the casinos if we want (those are dead days for them so $59 max) and we might be able to catch an exhibition Grizzly basketball game. Plus the weather isn't so damn hot. The more notice the more likely we are to get a larger turnout in my opinion.

OK then, cancel that suggestion.

Sorry for the short notice. Thought someone should get on the stick so I just flung it out there.

But without Shadowcat or Golfer, I think an "official" Memphis meet would be nothing better than a disappointment. I may be there anyway, though now that S & G are out, I'll have to play it by ear. No commitments.

Official Meet Up no longer on for 13, 14, 15. Try again in late September. Keep checking this thread for BG's whereabouts regarding Memphis. Whenever I head up there, I'll try to let y'all know that I'm on my way. Email me with a physical description, and I'll let you know how you can recognize me too.

S, given that your evident "favorite" club is PP in Columbia, am I to take it you would have been driving ten hours for this meet up? Now THAT would have been dedication!

Actually I'll have to pass on those days as well. I unfortunately am in the process of passing a couple of kidney stones and I'm sort of sidelined until I get this done one way or another. I don't expect to be driving 5 hours for a few weeks lol I would love to do it but this for me the end of Sept would be a better time. However if the deal goes down you guys have a great time and give my regards to all the dancers who remember me. lol

I hereby propose Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, August 13, 14, 15. Anyone, anyone? We should meet at Platinum Plus on Sunday night (a non-prime time, and therefore the only decent time to attend that club), and plan on Tunica Cabaret on either Monday or Tuesday or both. We should also plan on Christie's and the Pony at some indeterminate time in between.

I will be visiting the city without any other time restrictions, so as long as other people agree to the dates I'll be free for any given specific scheduling of venue.

Outside of the a baseball game, that is. The Redbirds have a home game at 2:10 on Sunday and at 7:10 on Monday. (They are also in town the subsequent weekend, a home-stand from 19th to 27th). And if you haven't been to this ballpark but enjoy outdoor or sporting activities of any sort, you really owe it to yourself to see the place. Good seats for about $10, food and beer at obscene ballpark prices. It'll be hot!

This is probably the worse month for me as I'm going to Vegas in mid September but I'll try. I prefer Tunica to Memphis due to cheap & nice rooms, gambling, etc. but to each their own. Bones and I never have any trouble finding each other and there will be enough people so that cars shouldn't ba problem.
