Clayton man seeks to open floating strip club on Suisun Bay

Monday, April 4, 2011 12:48 AM
A Clayton man named John Rotherbar is drawing up plans for a floating strip club called “Moby Chicks“ in the waters of Suisun Bay, just north of the Concord Naval Weapons Station, [view link] has learned. Rotherbar tells [view link] he's presented plans to open a club on solid land in the past, but has been denied by the City of Concord, Martinez & Benicia over the last 10-years, so now, he's trying a different approach…. “Moby Chicks” will include a floating, full nude club with no alcohol in Suisun Bay. We will have room for about 100 patrons and four stages, with no less than 3 girls dancing at a time on each stage. Ferry service will also be available to all guests to and from the club. We asked Rotherbar why he thinks the area will support a strip club…. Gentlemen don't have access to adult entertainment in Contra Costa or Solano County, and I want to change that. Suisun Bay is the perfect location because the ferry terminals will be located right off Interstate-680 in Benicia & near the Martinez Marina. It will be accessible to all travelers going north or south on I-680. It's insane that if I want to go out and have a good time at an adult club, I have to travel to San Francisco or Sacramento, and in my opinion, that's just a crime, especially since gas prices are over $4 a gallon. Rotherbar, now 57, made millions during the .com era on several adult entertainment websites, and has invested in adult clubs in Seattle & San Diego. Although they haven't made an appearance on the West Coast, these floating adult clubs have been successful in different parts of the country, including on the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan. If all goes as planned, Rotherbar says he wants to open “Moby Chicks” on Suisun Bay by the summer of 2013. [view link]

    1) It will be more than 1,500 feet from any school, church, park, YMCA, mall, or any place that kids or spiteful old biddies will gather-negating the NIMBY argument. 2) It will be an adults only establishment, negating any possible juvenile contamination, unless the managers are sloppy about checking identification. 3) The only argument left is "human trafficking", as every strip club in the world has been painted with that very broad brush (feminists can't accept that any American female, over 18, would of their own free will, take off their clothes for, ......ugh...a man). In a relevant chord, cruise lines occasionally have a clothing optional cruise, but I think they're passing up $$$ not having a very adult cruise, complete with strippers, porn stars, and consenting adults. Since they're very much offshore, stupid things like distance requirements, one foot on the ground, no touch rules, wouldn't apply.

    1. Moby Chicks is a terrible name as the first thing I thought of was a big fat pale chick! 2. I've mentioned before that I thought going onto the water was a good idea...but what about sea sickness...talk about getting stains on your pants! 3. What's this about Lake Michigan...any names available?

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't there been or still is floating brothels. I'm sure I've read about them off the Florida coast in International waters. I'm not certain, but is there international water areas in the Great lakes between Canada and the U.S.?

So if you get 86'ed from the club for some reason or another, instead of throwing you out the door are you made to walk the plank? :-p Seriously, to put a facility afloat in Suisun Bay means that the club would technically be a commercial vessel and would be subject to Coast Guard oversight and would have to be crewed according to the Inland rules of the road- as there are ocean going vessels navigating those waters. I think that adds considerably to the normal overhead it takes to operate a club ashore- I really can't believe its a money making proposition.
