Cal-OSHA Fines Hustler Video $14K for Not Using Condoms

Thursday, March 31, 2011 9:55 PM
LOS ANGELES—The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) has fined Hustler Video $14,175 for failing to use condoms in its productions. According to the citation issued to Hustler Video and obtained by AVN, Cal-OSHA cites three violations, in which the video production company “failed to provide condoms or other protective equipment” for performers. Additionally the company was cited for failure to provide an injury and illness prevention program, and for failing to provide protection against "other potentially infectious materials." Hustler was fined $4,725 for each violation. The inspection of the Hustler Video set in Canoga Park, Calif. on Sept. 14, was prompted by a complaint from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). Also cited was Mark Zane's Forsaken Pictures, which was fined $12,150 for three violations. According to the complaint, it appears that Forsaken's fines were in connection to producing an adult movie for Hustler Video. AVN reported previously on Cal-OSHA's investigation and inspection of Hustler. “We have opened an investigation into Hustler Video, and it is after we looked into a complaint by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation," Cal-OSHA spokesperson Krisann Chasarik told AVN last September. "We are doing an inspection, but I can't tell you anything about it until it's over. But we did receive a complaint, and we are looking into those claims that the blood-borne pathogen standard was being violated.” Hustler has a right to appeal the fine by filing an appeal with the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board within 15 days upon the receipt of the citation, which was issued March 9. A message was left for Hustler President Michael Klein seeking comment. A message also was left for Dean Fryer, spokesperson for the California Department of Industrial Relations, which oversees Cal-OSHA. The Cal-OSHA citation can be read here. [view link]

I guess these knuckleheads missed that a porn studio is being built in Mexico. Well, California is ruled by knucklehead dumocrats who constantly attack business. And they're surprised that the state is in debt ?

This seems very odd. -- If there is truly a requirement in CA for condom use in porn production, it probably is violated most of the time. -- If Hustler was actually fined for violating such a requirement, three "offenses" seems a mere drop in the bucket. -- Does OSHA really have such specific guidelines?

Like many government agencies, I think they were just bowing to the pressure from that AIDs group. If the AID's group hadn't piped up, OSHA probably wouldn't have ever thought to look at porn production. Unfortunately, a small group of people can sometimes get their agendas taken care of by creating enough noise. I'd like to know if any of the porn actors had any complaints about the lack of condom use or was it just this outside group. I'm all for protecting the innocent but not to have people stick their noses into situations involving consenting adults.

I'd like to see OSHA do some thing about the extreme volume levels of the music in strip clubs. But on the otherhand, I don't want further government/LE looking into strip club activities.

Perhaps we can turn OSHA onto other industries! 1. Candle shops...the odors from those places is way worse than smoking and probably worse for your health. I think OSHA should require some kind of personal ventilators. 2. Flowershops...some people are extremely allergic to pollen. I think OSHA should require some kind of personal ventilators. 3. Gas stations...gasoline fumes aren't very good for you. I think OSHA should require some kind of personal ventilators. 4. Bathroom Trolls...talk about working in a skinking environment. I think OSHA should require some kind of personal ventilators. 5. City Hall and other government buildings...Talk about getting fucked without a condom?!?! They should definitely require them on politicians...they'll fuck anything! 6. You come up with some others...I'm tired.
