Which states have the most strip clubs for their population?

bumrubber
Do you ever wonder which states have the most strip clubs? How about for their population? Which states are the horniest, and/or the most and least regulated? What makes the difference?

The compulsive MBA in me got outta control, and I loaded some stats into a spreadsheet. Here are the stats for all 50 states, with the number of clubs listed on TUSCL, the latest population from the Census Bureau, and population per strip club, sorted by the latter.

I was hoping for a pattern, like the Bible Belt having the most clubs, or "liberal" states having the least, or something like that. But no such pattern seems to exist. The only surprises for me were Oregon at #2, and Washington being dead last. I expected Nevada and New Jersey to be high (mob heritage), and Utah and Virginia to be low (religious and buttoned-down dull). I knew West Virginia would be high, but I didn't expect #1.

Not surprised Florida has the second most in the US...

Oregon is a "no touch" state.

I enjoy these kinds of statistics and comparisons very much! Thank you for providing such. Would love to see them ranked by least/most regulated as you mentioned. I don't know how you would really tabulate that. It would be interesting to see. I can add to CTQWERTY's 3/2/2011, comment above: A lot of the clubs in the Portland,OR metro area aren't full blown strips clubs. Many are really just restuarants (not Denny's) that have a tiny stage, pole, and dancer in a corner. Those aren't very interesting.

DC is nude, but stage dancing only, no laps.

WV clubs are nude and serve alcohol, but are mostly low mileage. Many WV clubs are near border states/counties with stricter laws: western MD, VA, PA, OH.

I'd agree with ctqwerty... milage in oregon was disapointing. Not terrible by what's normal in my area, but disapointing for that many clubs.

Also, thanks for these stats bumrubber. Very interesting. It would be interesting to see how the list works out if you excluded bikini clubs and clubs that's don't offer lappers. Those don't really count.

@jackanonymous: WV is basically one big truck stop, with few opportunities to see hot bodies (no beach or city jogging paths). Not to mention the obesity epidemic.

@mjx01: hard to categorize like that, or even to know how complete or accurate the TUSCL listing is. There are probably defunct clubs listed, or clubs not listed that should be.

67+ clubs in the Portland OR area. the mileage seems to be getting better since the bad economy. but nothing close to what some of your are getting. maybe its b/c I dont have any ATF.

I think miles squared would be better, who cares about other customers, how far away is another strip club if this one sucks

We also need to add a column for the club ratings for each state. What't the point in having the most clubs per capita if they all suck!

Thanks for the effort.

Ohio probably ranks up there as most regulated especially the state capital Columbus.

I read your article a second time. I wonder if using income data, rather than population as the criterion for determing which states have the most and least strip clubs would yield more interesting results.

Maybe it's the other way around. You don't have an ATF because the mileage is lousy.

Do you guys think strip club regulations/laws have helped the strip clubs in some ways? I know here in Columbus I used to be satisfied with the groping or boobs in the face I got with the $1 stage tips from several dancers....now the stage tips are no contact and only possible contact/action is back in the lap dance area. As a result, if I am interested in a gal, I will do lap dances rather than wait for the stage tipping and as a result my spending has increased.

Most dancers have figured out ways to sucker customers for tips by charging $5-30 tips to take off their pasties in the lap dances. Again, something I would never have had to pay for before the strict regulation.

Also as a result of legislation it is more difficult for new clubs to open up and compete with the established clubs, which ends up hurting the customer who pays higher prices. One thing that surprised me about Detroit is how the upscale clubs had free cover before 7pm and lots of dancers working (11-25). Here in Columbus the upscale clubs will charge a dayshift cover $5-10 with only 6-10 dancers.

I agree with a few of the above comments, especially those which suggest a comparison that somehow includes "quality" (as represented by current TUSCL rating, f.e.) in the chart; as well as including level of "licentiousness" (a more subjective factor). I don't know how to do the statistics properly, but I'm sure a four- or six-column chart could be created, in which there's a "per club" rating, or an overall "statewide club quality" rating.

I'd also like to see it done by urban metro area, instead of by state. I think (for instance) that the clubs and ratings of New Orleans don't really represent the rest of Louisiana. This urban-area statistical arrangement really would be a much better service to TUSCL members as well, since it could really help for trip-planning and airport consideration. :)

In the long run, the current chart indicates that there are several rather rural, wide-open-spaces type states at the tops of the lists. I think this isn't so much a function of women gravitating toward states where there is lots of undeveloped land! :) Rather, it's just that a critical mass of clubs tends to exist in any given urban or quasi-urban city, including any state capitol, regardless of how low the population for the rest of the state is. Consequently, some of the top "scores" for clubs-per-population are simply a representation of states with low total populations or with wide-spread, sparsely distributed populations.

Well, it's all very interesting, but it would take a lot of time to fix it up to something like I've suggested here. If I knew how to make the spreadsheet do it, I'd certainly volunteer. But I know neither (a) decent statistics nor (b) how to run Excel, so I'm pissin' in da wind here ... :P
