Victim's Family Upset With Judge's Decision
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A strip club bouncer pleaded guilty Tuesday in connection with the death of one of the club's patrons last year.
Jason Purcell, 31, of Greer, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old Joseph Collura, of Moore.
Investigators said that Collura was involved in an altercation inside Platinum Plus Gentleman's Club on March 25 and was carried outside by three employees of the club. They said that Purcell carried Collura outside with his arm wrapped around Collura's neck.
Deputies said that an autopsy found that Collura died from asphyxia due to a compression of the neck. They said that since Purcell was the only employee who was in contact with Collura's neck, he was the only one who was charged in the case.
On Tuesday, Purcell pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years probation, which was the recommended punishment by the solicitor's office, according to the judge.
Collura's family was extremely upset with the judge's decision. One family member said people should get probation for stealing bicycles, not for taking someone's life.
