Tough times in the porn industry

Interesting article from the LA Times:
Less than two years ago, (Adult entertainment actress Savannah) Stern earned close to $150,000 annually, sometimes turned down work and drove a Mercedes-Benz CLK 350. Now she's aggressively reaching out for jobs and making closer to $50,000 a year. As for that Mercedes? She's replacing it with a used Chevy Trailblazer -- from her parents.

The article claims that more porn stars are doing feature dances in strip clubs to generate income – have you noticed this?

(or is it all of the free porn youtube-like file sharing sites fault).
The best thing that could happen to the industry is a huge shakeout that drives out the mediocre. As for me, I'll continue to look for old clips of Tera Patrick (pre-botox and pre-Evan Seinfeld) and French beauty Clara Morgane (before she became a mainstream singing star). And maybe Madelyn Marie from today's crop of stars.
Porn is going to face many of the same pressures of other film studios. Why pay for a dvd when file sharing and free sites offer a ton of content. I would imagine less dvd's are sold by the mainstream film studios as well as porn manufacturers, etc.
I saw a TV story about how McDonald's and many companies have to have a certain % higher sales year after year or they are considered not meeting forecasts. The story posed the question, why does McDonalds need us to eat 10% more hamburgers the next year or they are considered not making expected profits, why cant the current profit % be acceptable year after year since there are only so many McD's hamburgers americans will eat. I think the same holds true for porn and everything else, why cant they sell the same year after year to be considered profitable.
year. I guess that could mean that she was making that much just from
the porn and had other income dancing etc. It sure doesn't make port sound that lucrative. At a nude club near me,
the better girls make $1500 a night. This is at a club which is kind
of factory like. Dances are timed $20/5 min. VIP is $180/ 30 minutes.
Some of the girls are 8-9s,but some are not. Some are 5-6s.
This particular club isn't even known for extras. I had one girl complaining that the beginning of the week was slow, but she still brought home between $500 and $600.
There needs to be a bloodletting. There's a lot of crap porn out there. The only porn actors/actresses out there making money are multi talented, and haven't put all their eggs in one basket. Look at Sasha Grey-porn actress, actress, musician, and singer.
In the early 1980's, the term porn star came to the fore, but back then, there was about 25 true "porn stars" and about a hundred bit players. Nowadays, there's probably only a handful of "porn stars", but hundreds and hundreds of porn actresses.
The smart "staars" in porn wne into production and distribution. The rest just get older leave the scene.
There is a porn overload, for sure. Bad quality. Too many websites. And way too many homely girls. I watched most of my porn in the 80s and 90s and the girls were much better looking. I like unattainable women in my porn, not heavily tattooed skanks with obvious drug habits.
What's going to help the industry? I don't think Digital Playground is going to do it with multimillion dollar budget porn. Porn will always be around but only the strong will survive.
Anybody remember when girls used to pace themselves? First they'd be nude, then girl/girl, boy/girl, anal, multiple partners, then interracial and they were out of the business. Now it seems like girls do everything right out of the gate. Must lead to burnout.
I have noticed lots of first time girls in the strip clubs, however. Hard times driving them to it?
