In the long run, Russia is screwed. Millions of young people have left the country. Sanctions have destroyed its economy, permanently. Their oil industry was the only thing keeping them going and, without western investment and technology, it won’t come back. In the short run, Putin will pay any price for victory in Ukraine. He tried to win with 100,000 troops in a quick victory. Now, he is committing 500,000 troops in a long term slugfest. Millions will die, on both sides. The carnage and failure in Ukraine will make our abandonment of Afghanistan look like a cake walk. Maybe NATO knew that all along. They were willing to sacrifice the Ukrainian people to weaken Putin. If so, shame on them. It’s going to get ugly.

However, burning it was a much faster procedure allowing the tracks to open. Reportedly, the railroad pressured DeWine for this solution.

The burn released it into the atmosphere. The correct procedure would have been to put it into another storage container, then chemically break it down at another location.

The decision to burn the chemicals released Phosgene gas into the atmosphere and water. Phosgene is extremely poisonous and was used as a chemical weapon during World War I, where it was responsible for 85,000 deaths. It is a highly potent pulmonary irritant and quickly filled enemy trenches due to it being a heavy gas.

Word coming out of Ukraine is that they are running out of ammunition for their tanks and artillery. These are old Soviet era weapons and the stockpile is exhausted. Ukraine is unable to make more. Meanwhile, Russia continues to restock their munitions. Russian aircraft and troops are massing on the border for the expected offensive on the eastern front.

President Biden was panned for a tweet Tuesday promising that climate investments will ensure "our kids will breathe cleaner air" as his administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is under fire for its handling of the Ohio train derailment and health concerns over toxic chemicals are mounting.  Because of our climate investments, our kids will breathe cleaner air, drink safer water, and get to school powered by clean energy," Biden tweeted Tuesday morning. The president added, "That’s the future we’re building," tapping EPA Administrator Michael Regan, "let’s finish the job."

My understanding is the authorities decided to release the chemicals from the tanker to prevent an explosion ( smart ), then decided to set it on fire ( incredibly stupid ). The decision was made by Governor DeWine, who doesn’t have the authority or the expertise. Anyway, that’s the word I’m hearing.

I think I’ll start a thread predicting a blizzard in Honolulu. I’ll keep posting on it explaining why I’m right for as many months/years as it takes.

I also saw Black Oak Arkansas perform where the Pot smoke was so thick in the arena that I couldn’t see the stage. The music was great but I can’t confirm whether it was live or a recording. Either way, it was fun.

Dropping like a rock, leading to deflation: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January showed a 0.5% increase in prices over the past month, an acceleration from the prior reading, government data showed Tuesday. On an annual basis, CPI rose 6.4%, continuing a steady march down from a 9.1% peak last June.

I was also at The Beach Boys Bicentennial concert in Anaheim Stadium where they just came out and played. They had 80,000 fans literally shaking the rafters. Amazing. I saw Springsteen. I saw U2. I saw the Grateful Dead. All live music played with real instruments. No devil suits and balloon boys. No complaints.

“If you paid $200 in today’s ticket prices and the musicians just came out and played, you’d complain” If you paid $200 to see Rihanna perform, only to realize she was lip syncing while floating around on a platform, would you complain ?

I actually saw Pink Floyd perform The Wall. It was probably the most over the top theatrical performance of all time. Plus, it included some great music that was performed live with real instruments. Unlike Rihanna’s Super Bowl show.

From Catturd When I think about music that touched my life - the last thing I think about is red devil suits, 20 side dancers, and horrible canned synthetic samples. How I long for the days when we had musicians who played real instruments, wrote real song, and sang them from the heart.
