I keep getting dozens of daily spam phone calls

I don't block phone numbers because I realize that's not gonna stop it. I realize they're cloning fake numbers, etc.

I happen to not have voicemail; so I don't get any voicemails--I can't get any voicemails, my voicemail doesn't exist. I don't often pickup and answer the spam calls because I hate phones (hence why I don't have voicemail) and my phone stays on vibrate. Again, I hate phones, so mine isn't often near me. When I pick it up to see any text messages at the end of the day is when I see I've missed dozens of calls, all labeled as spam.

So I'm trying 2 things. I'm picking up this week and saying "I'm 14 years old, this phone belongs to a child." To see what happens. I know, I know: never answer spam calls it makes it worse. But I don't have voicemail and my phone is on vibrate now and I don't pick up, how am I getting even more calls? It use to be 4 a day. Now it's at least a dozen.

The other thing I'll try: I'm gonna pickup and say "Dallas City Police Department, Lieutenant Charles speaking, what's your emergency?" See how they handle it (when it's a live spam person.

What I'm trying to do is have them code my call differently: as a minor or as police. Any advice?

Oh, I might include "you are on a recorded line can you state your name again louder?"

I’m guessing you’re going to say “I don’t have an iPhone” but fyi the iOS update a few months back has a setting where the phone doesn’t ring if the caller isn’t in your contacts. Instead, the phone asks them for their name and why they are calling. Most spammers or a robocall will hang up at that point. If it’s a real call, the phone will ring and will put the person’s name and the reason they called on the screen so you can decide whether to pick up. It’s diverted 95% of my spam calls so I never see them.

We just ditched our landline completely. At least 95% of the calls that came in were begging for cash, one time offers of real estate or just plain scams. Our lives have been much quieter since.

I heard about that with iphones. I used to have an iPhone years ago. Love my droid / Samsungs.

I don't have voicemail. My phone stays on vibrate so I don't even know it's ringing. My phone stays away from me, so I only look at it mostly at the end of a business day. I miss all types of calls.

Folks who know me know I have no voicemail and that I don't call anybody, so they know I see texts.

So you don't understand if I never pickup these spam calls, how they continue to keep blowing up my phone. You gotta picture: I hate phones. You will not hear a phone ring from me. My phone forever stays in silent vibration. Always. So I miss every call. And with no voicemail whatsoever, nobody can leave a voicemail, I absolutely do not have one, I don't know how these spammers keep trying.

I didn't care when I got 4 spam calls a day. My phones always on silent. I never pick up. There's no voicemail. But now in the past months it's at least 12 different missed spam calls a day (my phone labels each one as SPAM CALL) I don't understand why different numbers continue trying. You'll never reach me. Can't leave a message. Why are even more phone calls coming? I don't block anything because I'm showing no reaction to the call: I don't pickup, I don't block, you can't leave voicemail. Call my phone it rings and rings and stops, for you. U don't even know you're calling because my phone stays in silent vibration. I can do this forever. But it's gone from 4 daily spam calls to now 12. All different numbers. I don't see repeat numbers. All labeled SPAM.

I see on Reddit I'm not the only one. Suddenly, lately, some of us are getting a crazy amount of spam calls.

By the way, in this age of texting, I think some should consider dropping your voicemail. You think you'll miss it, but you'll notice you don't.

My phone labels when it's a valid number and not SPAM. Anyone who knows me knows they better text and not call. I can go months without making a single phone call. I call all my family members and friends on one designated day, altogether.

It’s crazy. The amount of spam calls, emails and messages. My phone does take care of most of them.

My buddy dropped his VM and he calls right back as he sees the # calling him. My google voice # has the feature that announces who is calling and I can accept or decline the call. If they want, they leave a VM...

I never talk to any scammer on the phone or even pick up the phone for anyone whose telephone number I do not recognize. I tried being polite and asking them not to call me and also tried being rude and neither had any effect in reducing phone calls. Just ignoring them works better. The same thing is true of trolls on the internet. Ignore them and don't respond is the best response.

The spam calls seem to come in spurts for me. I'll have relatively few for a while, then it feels like they go non-stop for about a month. I've learned to embrace some of the DO NOT DISTURB features of my phone to help with matters. Also, I can sometimes get a fair number of nonsense text messages as well...

The junk I seem to get the most of:

  1. Calls offering "tax resolution"
  2. Calls claiming that I'm about to lose my TV/internet discount if I don't call back
  3. Calls or texts about "healthcare plans" available in my area

Many times auto-bots will dial to see what picks up. For some reason, my spam level has gone down dramatically. I didn't know about the iPhone thing which explains why sometimes I see a call going to VM and it never rang. If it is someone.

Once you pick up a spam call, it will happen again and again.

In the past 2 months I’ve been getting much more spam calls than usual.

I’m a sales rep so I get a lot of people calling me that I don’t have their numbers stored in my phone.

I’ve gotten a few calls that were legitimate that were labeled spam. It’s rare but it has happened a few times.

Unfortunately with these recent calls there’s been a lot that are not labeled spam but are. Somehow these callers are getting around the spam label or spoofing their number in a way they pass the detection. Usually once the person says one word I can figure out if it’s a spam call or not. I just hang up and block the number.

Spam calls are an annoyance of modern life but OP is putting way too much thought into this. Just ignore and delete

My general rule is to never answer any spam call, spam text, or any unknown number. I can't say whether or not it has helped me to ignore them for years and years, because there are periods of time when I still get hammered with them. But I also can't really see how it would help me to answer them in some way, so I'll just continue to ignore them all for the rest of eternity. The ones that I even know what they're supposedly calling about is just because the person or bot has left a voicemail message...

The only time a spam call might get me to answer is if I'm expecting a call from an unknown number, perhaps for something like furniture delivery. I once did that, expecting it to be a delivery driver, and instead it was some random lady asking if she could share a bible verse with me... 😂
