JK. It definitely isn’t. But here’s the thing:
There are a whole lot of places I haven’t mongered (e.g. TJ, PNW, Detroit, East Coast of FLA) but Providence has always seemed like a good SC town to me. One reason, the high density of SCs. 5 clubs in a city of 190K works out to 38K residents per club.
By contrast, Philadelphia, which is no slouch as a SC town, has 15 clubs serving a population of 1.6 million, which works out to
106K residents per club.
And then there’s Akron. Population 190K, like Providence, but it has 10 clubs, so there’s a club for every 19K residents, twice as dense as PVD.
I’m not suggesting that the Akron clubs are comparable in overall quality to the clubs in PVD or even PHL. They’re not. I visited 5 clubs ranging from aspirations toward high-end to dive bar brothel to ghetto AF, and I think I had a representative sample.
I’m just wondering about the background behind a city of that size having that many clubs.
