JK. It definitely isn’t. But here’s the thing:
There are a whole lot of places I haven’t mongered (e.g. TJ, PNW, Detroit, East Coast of FLA) but Providence has always seemed like a good SC town to me. One reason, the high density of SCs. 5 clubs in a city of 190K works out to 38K residents per club.
By contrast, Philadelphia, which is no slouch as a SC town, has 15 clubs serving a population of 1.6 million, which works out to
106K residents per club.
And then there’s Akron. Population 190K, like Providence, but it has 10 clubs, so there’s a club for every 19K residents, twice as dense as PVD.
I’m not suggesting that the Akron clubs are comparable in overall quality to the clubs in PVD or even PHL. They’re not. I visited 5 clubs ranging from aspirations toward high-end to dive bar brothel to ghetto AF, and I think I had a representative sample.
I’m just wondering about the background behind a city of that size having that many clubs.

Something is just off for me with this density metric. Partly because it doesn't account for metro area, and also club size or club quality.

@RonJax2: Proximity to airport?
I’ll grant that “metro areas” might more accurately reflect the SC marketplace, but it is also inherently subjective. How large is the PVD metro area, for example? You could get a lot of different answers and none would be wrong. There are SMSAs, but that’s too much work and may not really fit the SC markets anyway. It’s easier to grab data based on city limits and TUSCL listings. In the case of Akron, unless you’re going to merge it into the Cleveland metro, which doesn’t seem right, the metrics probably won’t change much anyway

@manuellabore, it does seem like Akron is an outlier in terms of club offerings for sure. I've never mongered there, though I am quite surprised at how often it comes up on TUSCL.
It just seems like there should be other factors here then clubs per resident. In TJ, about half those clubs are concentrated in a 1 block radius, la Zona Norte which is like a dream of adult disneyland until you get robbed by the police. Or similarly, "the block" in Baltimore is an incredibly high concentration of clubs which are a ton of fun until you get stabbed or shot. Or even Pompano Beach, which has like 4-5 clubs within a mile or so of eachother.
There's something to be said for a high concentration of high mileage clubs located close together, is what I'm getting at!

@RonJax2, I would never tout Akron as a destination for mongering. I also happened to notice a lot of reviews for Akron clubs, especially OGD, and it just fit into my business travels to check it out.
None of the Akron clubs are realistically within walking distance of each other. That's basically true in PVD, although I have walked from Cadillac to Foxy's, and from Wonderland to Desire, mostly just to cheap it out on Ubers.
Definitely a high concentration of clubs on The Block, but I wouldn't really call any a "ton of fun". It's still worth checking out at least once, and I don't think it's all that threatening.
BTW, Balto has an impressive ratio of 1 SC for every 25,800 residents (568K residents/22 clubs), and, yet, unlike PVD, I wouldn't go out of my way to stop there.
Pompano sounds like it could be up my alley, though.

Yeah, the Block is a shadow of it's former self. I agree with not going out of your way to stop there, but it is an oasis in the dusty strip club wastelands of the DMV area.
TJ though... that's the fucking shit right there. And the pop/strip club ratio doesn't tell that story!

There is no metro Providence area. Providence is a great strip club town compared to the area for the same reason the food scene is better, Italian base instead of an Irish base.

It's probably the spirit of Devo that makes Akron women say fuck it, I'm gonna get nekked for money.
