Best Movie You’ve Seen Last 3 Years (released)

Avatar for shailynn

If you had to pick the best movie you’ve seen that’s been released in the past 3 years, and you wanted others to see it because you thought it was so good, which movie would you recommend?

I haven't been to any newly released movies that I can think of in the last 3 years.

All movies are now too politically correct to spend money to see. If they are not blowing things up or pounding strippers, then there is no entertainment value. I will say the the Wifey series of short films are worth a watch !!!

Good grief I never said you guys had to go to a theater to see this movie.

My suggestion:

Killer (2023)

About an assassin.

It was on Netflix, not sure if it was ever in theaters.

Sinners (2025). Didn't expect an ancient Irish vampire being my favorite villain of the year

john wick 4. not as good as the first three. the role of the blind guy that has good aim with a handgun just ruined it for me.

I haven't been to a movie theater since 1988 but I do watch a lot of movies at home. The only movie that I have seen at home that I am sure was released in the last 3 years was "Top Gun Maverick" that I watched on Blu ray DVD. And yes I would recommend it if you like action movies.

Mission Impossible dead reckoning part one. I previously wasnt really into those movies, wasnt going to see it, but happened to come across the crazy ratings on rotten tomatoes and decided to see it.

reading Shadow cats post reminded me that I did see Top Gun Maverick maybe about a year ago. but I did not see it in a theater. one of my kids has a TV movie subscription. I thought it was pretty well done.

Not many new movies interest me. I was excited to see Oppenheimer, but it ended up being kind of boring.

I thought Civil War had a lot of potential and an interesting premise, but it was poorly executed and pretty bad.

If someone put a gun to my head af forced me to name one, it would probably be The Holdovers

Old Dads with Bill Burr. Not really, but it was on Netflix and it got me laughing.

Oh man, I'm terribly slow when it comes to watching films, to the point that I can't even provide an answer here. I eventually get around to watching some good movies, but it's usually quite a few years after their release date...
.
I'm still trying to find time to watch Titanic, but someone already ruined it for me by telling me that the ship sank...

If I read anything good about a movie I download and set it aside. I’ve about 90 movies in my queue to watch that I’ve never seen before. I should watch more of them but I often skip it and go back and watch a movie I’ve seen a dozen times already.

I don't really watch movies anymore. I see this things on a plane, dude it's unwatchable. It might be me, because even the non woke movies, there was one with Viggo Mortensen (who is awesome) during the civil war. It was so damn boring I don't have the patience for things anymore. Don't even get me started on the woke films.

Was top gun in the last three years, that was pretty solid, original was way better though sorry

I have to agree with Icey

One movie I have watched recently was The Gorge. I don’t want to give away too much, but the first 2/3 of the movie was great. But then it degenerated into complete and utter CGI nonsense.

I agree with many on here with the issue todays movies:

  • CGI is ruining them
  • Poor acting
  • Relying on special effects/CGI instead of acting
  • too much political BS

BUT.... there has been some OK to good movies out there.

Top Gun Maverik
Hitman
Pearl
X
Carry On

Two of my friends recommended Gladiator 2. The first Gladiator is my second favorite movie next to Scarface. And Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors, so I rented it. I turned it off after 15 minutes. Too much CGI, and the animals in the arena were like something out of science fiction. Jeez, I hope Denzel just made a mistake and hasn't sold out like Samuel Jackson.

Haven't been to a movie in a theater in at least 5 years. From what I read on hear it doesn't sound like I am missing anything.
Kind of ironic because my job is renting antique props for period movies. Last week I supplied some stuff for a biopic about John Madden. It stars Nicholas Cage as Madden. Might be interesting, but doubt I will see it. Have some stuff in a remake of "Bride of Frankenstein " which hasn't come out yet. Set in 1935, I might go see it, but probably not.

Trump wants to save Hollywood. I say fuck them. They have overpaid actors for years and driven the business out due to high costs of production. Georgia now is the leading movie maker and Trilith Studios in my little town is the largest movie studio in North America.

I’ve seen all the movies cited except Sinners. Can’t say a I thought any of them were better than OK. I was psyched to see Furiosa and Dune 2 because I think Fury Road was the greatest action movie ever and Dune was excellent, but both the sequels disappointed.
Even more so with Gladiator 2. That was next level suck.
Some one recommended Beekeeper to me. Awful. Now I know people’s taste for movies is in their ass.
I’ll check out Sinners.

Oh forgot Nosferatu. Saw that in the theater. Excellent. Scary, with a heavy sense of dread. Best movie I’ve seen made in the last 3 years.

It may not be considered a great movie, but I enjoyed Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare last year. Lots of good guys killing Nazis with enough humor to make it enjoyable.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is my favorite of the past few years. Hundreds Of Beavers is very funny and clever old fashioned slapstick visual humor (not porn -- although there's an actress in it who has clearly done some pole work). Godzilla Minus One has a good story and great effects. Nosferatu was cool too. I will check out Sinners and New Religion.

(Assuming 2021 - 2024). Dune 2 was probably the all around best. Then No Time to Die (I really liked the ending but I have issues with the narrative). I would rank Top Gun Maverick higher if it wasn't stealing from Star Wars (but I still give points for its execution). I also like Oppenheimer a lot.
Very much enjoyed Deadpool and Wolverine.
Bullet Train was surprisingly good. Oh, and another vote for Godzilla Minus One.
