Porn Ban

Avatar for dustyj

Republicans have proposed a bill that would ban all porn. Don't know if it will happen but less freedom is the GOP agenda.

@Dustyj - Didn't I offer you a $10,000 bet on this? Are you considering it again?
Or, rapidly losing your talking points on tariffs being the ruin of America, are you just flailing for more reasons to stay angry?

Just assuming that guys on here weren't hoping to have freedoms taken away from us by a dictator.

My bet still stands. $10,000 says porn will still be legal in the US as of the end of this presidential term.

Trump is in your head 168 hours a week. I'm probably only a few minutes less than that.

You seem angry. Perhaps take up meditation.

It’s actually true and the limitations are starting state by state with Florida and Texas banning PornHub unless you enter an ID. Who the fuck wants their personal ID entered into PornHub?!? Meanwhile, Trump and Pam Bondi are hiding the Epstein files because his pedophile ass is all over them.

It's called the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA). It's sponsors are Sen. Mike Lee (Utah - R) and Rep. Mary Miller (Illinois - R). It has been introduced multiple times over the past few years so who knows if it will pass this time, but the definite aim of the bill is to ban porn nationwide. It allows for prosecution of those who host or share sexually explicit material online unless it has a "serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value".

The state specific ID requirements have been around for 2+ years now i believe. Pornhubs site for instance doesnt load in Virginia… but its not because it was banned. Pornhub basically doesnt want to participate in the ID requirements so they disabled the site in those states

An age requirement for porn isnt much different than having it for voting, alcohol, strip clubs, etc

I admire the artistey of porn star positions, so I suppose my porn will be untouched.

Trump sometimes does things that conflict with a huge segment of republicans. This porn stuff was going on since at least 2 years ago

I doubt Trump wants to ban porn, after all he did BANG a porn star.

Other bible thumping Republicans, yes. Each party has their extremists, always have and always will. As long as either minority on either side does not make the decisions for the masses, we will all be fine.

Live in Virginia and want to look at Pornhub? Simple solution, pay $30 a year for a VPN (virtual private network) and switch your IP address to New York and you'll be good to go.

I think this started a few years ago when politicians wanted to restrict access of porn to children and one way was to request a photo ID. This ran into the murky territory of freedom of speech and somehow we wound up with some people wanting to ban porn all together. The reality is as long as kids have access to the internet they're going to find a way to view porn, it's impossible to stop, kinda like Juice at an All-You-Can-Eat buffet (RIP).

Best I can tell, it aims to redefine obscenity to remove the community standards aspect of the first of the three prong test and add lewd displays of nudity to the second prong. I didn't read the whole thing so I don't know if there are significant provisions around penalties or liability or not.

To say that its a bill to ban porn is more than a bit overstated and over dramatic. But if it's not a move to inch towards that goal, it's also equally pointless and a waste of time and money. If passed, it'll certainly result in a bunch of lawsuits as supporters try to push their agenda further and opponents try to minimize the damage.

Although this is a news source from the left (relative to the viewpoints of ski and gam), here is a source. Utah of course is where it originates. No, I don't believe it will pass muster.

The proposed statute tracks the statutes that have already been ruled Unconstitutional. This new statute would be as well.
