Wasn't DOGE going to cut spending? What about those DOGE checks we were supposed to get? Nothing? If we would have had only Republican presidents and no Democrat presidents in the last 50 years our debt would be 100 trillion. It's amazing how bad the supposedly fiscally responsible Republican presidents are at running up our debt. We are getting to the point where the interest payments on this debt is staggering and Trump keeps spending money like he did when he bankrupted casinos.

I've noticed that the national debt is only a big problem when the other party is in the White House. When my party is in the White House (doesn't matter if I'm Blue, Red or in the middle) it's A: the previous guys fault. And/or B: Not that big a deal.
Nothing is a big deal until it eventually and inevitably significantly negatively impacts your lives which this of course will especially with dipshits like Trump running up our debt like a drunken sailor.
Lest we forget, Schumer bragged about undoing the DOGE cuts and even adding spending on top of them, as if government spending were ipso facto a good thing. Both parties run up the debt with stupid things--you could get Dems to send trillions to Hamas if they said it was to fight global warming, and Republicans think tax cuts pay for themselves, which they never do.
We need to make social security solvent by lifting the cap on SS taxes, which are highly regressive. We need to stop relying on million dollar interceptors to take out thousand dollar drones. @dustyj, you and I might find a rare point of agreement that the Iran war is pretty rectalbrained. We need to fix our fucked up health care system but every inefficiency has a seat at the table. I could write a book on that.
This war is not only costing us a ridiculous amount of money it's decreasing our supplies and our ability to defend ourselves against the increasing number of enemies that Trump is creating for us around the world. As time goes by and we see what an absolute disaster was left behind by this Trump administration we might find more things we actually agree with each other on. The amount of money wasted on ICE which does far more harm than good is also astronomical.
@dustyj I'd temper those expectations of more agreement. I've been concerned about the deficit for decades, and it seems like it's only the party out of power that does.
I'm less worried about "enemies," most of the western leftists Trump is beefing with have freeloaded off of us to build their giant welfare states and are now being asked to handle their share of defense. Even if the tariffs were stupid and handled in about the worst possible way, they're not doing a ton of damage. Canada can talk as much shit as they want, they still have a 5,000 mile peaceful land border between us and not Europe or China. Besides, we need to reindustrialize. We've seen Ross Perot's "giant sucking sound" as we shipped jobs overseas. We can't have China manufacturing all our medicines and car parts.
As for ICE, they've pulled a number of murderers, rapists, child sex rings, drug trafficking rings, and DUIs off the streets. Still, I'd rather they go after employers. Anyone knowingly employing an illegal and not using e-Verify pays a fine and is criminally liable. Any country that doesn't take them back gets remittances taxed at 100%. THAT will clean up the illegal problem more than raiding meatpacking plants. Reform a guest worker program to get our labor. Unfortunately, they are our underclass defrauding government programs and working at sub-market rates, pushing up housing and pushing down wages. That benefits some powerful people.
@ThePuddyTat im curious on the last part, you mentioned pushing up houses, but those illegals working sub minimal wage rates cant afford houses- do you mean they are specifically pushing up rental rates only, or both rent rates and house prices?
Also, if you own a property that you want to rent out, would more illegal immigrants make it easier to rent it out for higher prices?
And are illegals even allowed to rent a property or do they have to basically piggyback off of a citizen meaning the official renter is a citizen that secretly has illegals living with them?
@rickthehick Rentals in particular, but they'll crowd 10 to a two bedroom apartment. If they drive up rent, that benefits the landlord class that Dems rate. Bernie used to call out illegal immigration as a way to drive down wages, which it does.

@rickthehick I don't know the law, but a lot of lower-end landlords operate on a cash basis, and yes, the wages they're driving down are lower-end manual jobs. My best friend married a Latina immigrant and she looks down on those who fail to learn English and assimilate. A lot of them work construction or clean houses.
In other fields, legal foreign H1Bs, often from India or China, drive down wages.
Your facts are completely wrong on ICE. They've pulled few criminals and are mostly committing the crimes themselves on peaceful people who are guilty of at the most a misdemeanor. But your racism justifies ICE racially profiling people many of whom are American citizens.

@rickthehick I'm done with P4P, though I think she'd be OK with me getting an occasional lapper when out with friends. As a monger you get an unlimited number of women, but in the same town you see the same ones over and over, VIP sex is rarely good and God Forbid you try to build a life with them. My wife has expressed interest in checking out a strip club, but every weekend we seem to find something cooler to do. I told my friends, no bachelor party at a strip club, because you're not going to show me anything I haven't done. Why are you so detached from the inhumane treatment of people? ICE's horrible treatment of people, throwing people in detention centers like Alligator Alcatraz and throwing people in horrendous conditions in foreign prisons is of no concern to you. You don't care about people. That's detachment.

I know it's a foreign concept for Republicans to care about anyone but themselves until it actually affects you. It doesn't matter whether she carries papers. ICE doesn't care.
