Experts are morons

The experts said Bill Belichick spending a very high daft choice, on a kicker, was stupid. Ryland missed so many kicks last year, that the Patriots stopped going for them, but kept Ryland. the experts said that's stupid. Ryland competed for the kicker job this year, he was better, but nit the best so the Patriots, lacking patience, cut him. The experts screamed: "that's smart!!!! Mayo is smarter than Belichick." Arizona picked up Ryland, the high draft choice, for nothing. That's stupid, the experts said, he cannot kick. On Sunday Arizona beat Miami on a last second Field Goal by Ryland. Arizona is 4-4 this year. Three times they have won (75%) a game on a last second field goal by Ryland so far this year. Experts are morons. Just fucking words that mean nothing. In sports, on politics, on society experts are morons.

I was surprised to see Ryland kick so well.

Interesting comments ski. The self proclaimed and anointed experts bs is exactly that, bullshit! The fact is there aren't any experts, there are people that know more about certain subjects than others but it doesn't make them an expert. Often 'experts' are even less knowledgeable about things than joe average.

Regarding drafted kickers, sometimes it takes years for a kicker to get his head straight and get consistent. They drift from team to team until the light comes on in their heads, that is if they get enough chances. Some don't get enough chances or they never 'get it' and fall by the wayside. There are a couple former Browns draft pick presently kickers kicking for other teams and their most recent pick is still trying to find himself. It's a crapshoot.

The Oakland Raiders drafted punter Ray Guy in the first round in the early 70’s. The “experts” probably called it a wasted pick. But he was instrumental to the Raider’s success in the 70’s. And he made the pro football HOF

^Interesting Ray Guy fact. He was such a great football player, despite being known as a kicker, that he not only punted and did the placekicking in college but was a safety with 18 interceptions as well. He threw a no-hitter in college and was a world class ping pong player. He also received extra money in his contract for not demanding to play defense and tackle people.

Wow. Interesting. I knew he was a good athlete but did not know about the baseball and ping pong.

I loved the old Raiders of the 70’s. Kenny “the Snake” Stabler is one of my ATF’s

there will never ever be a day when i value an opinion from one of these so called experts over the actions of someone who was responsible for winning 8 super bowls.

The line become experts and pundits has become blurred. We can no longer trust what "experts" say, because it seems they are all pursuing an objective or outcome other than being right.

^^no doubt. brady and manning are what currently are referred to goats-winning the bowl with 2 different organizations.

well, brady did have a real good coach in arians when he won in tampa.

99% of the coaches, gm's and scouts wouldn't have identified brady as a formidable starting qb. i would find it hard to believe though if brady would ever had won even one bowl say if the jets were to have drafted him at a later round and for some reason started him over chad pennington.

Tom Brady is my favorite athlete of all time, but in fairness to Belichick and to be honest, the two losses to the Giants were on Brady, yup the Eagles 100% on Belichick, and the Patriots defense was responsible for the first, and the last one, 10-3, what did Brady do? Oh yeah, as the losing coach said: Belichick outcoached me, he won this. I also seem to recall that the Patriots defense that was in super bowls 2 and 3 is considered one of the best of all time. Fair is fair, no one in football is great alone.

Skifredo’s has a point. He thinks he’s an expert in frickin’ everything and he is a moron. So he’s certainly an example of “experts” = morons.

As for actual experts, it varies. ROAR!!!

I'm good with the Joey Slye experience in 2024. Farland earned nothing in his rookie performance last year and Slye kicked Farland's ass in the 2024 preseason. Good for Farland for taking advantage of his 2nd opportunity.

If the Jets had drafted Brady he would have been a journeyman, not accomplishing anything. Well, until the Jets eventually cut him and he went somewhere else. OTOH I do wonder what would have happened had Mo Lewis not knocked Drew Bledsoe into next week.

I'm not sure which experts were saying what, so I can't opine on that.

What I CAN say is that after Ryland kicked so bad for so long, Mayo had no choice but to cut him. I'm not sure how much patience the Pats were supposed to have. It's not like a QB or other skill position requiring an understanding of a variety of schemes and a multitude of different skills sets. The guy had one fucking job: kick the ball through the uprights.

It's great that Ryland got his head on straight with Arizona, but that doesn't make Mayo's decision a bad one. They could only judge him on his body of work in New England and it was bad, so they made the right call. It sounds like a change of scenery was the right call for Ryland too.
