My comment on a discussion topic regarding Memphis randomly digressed to the excellent Little Feat song "Dixie Chicken". If you are somehow unfamiliar with this song, the plot involves a chump who meets and becomes smitten with a woman at the bar in the Commodore Hotel (which doesn't exist--The Peabody is the inspiration), and she drains him of his money and moves on. Lamenting his fate during a later visit to the bar, he realizes that the woman had done the same thing to everybody else in the bar--including the bartender.
The basic plot of the song is a microcosm of the faux-romances that are a mainstay of the SC scene: 1. PL meets dancer; 2. PL thinks he's vibing with dancer; 3. Dancer moves on to the next guy at the bar as soon as the money spigot shuts off, only to repeat the process.
Are there other songs with lyrics/themes that evoke the SC experience?
