"Zuckerberg: FBI Pushed Facebook To Crack Down On Misinformation Before Hunter Biden Laptop Story Was Published"
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed Thursday on “The Joe Rogan Experience” that the FBI approached the social media company during the 2020 presidential election and pushed them to crack down on alleged “Russian propaganda” before the Hunter Biden laptop story was published by the New York Post.
Zuckerberg made the remarks when asked by host Joe Rogan how Facebook handled big news items that were controversial, like the Hunter Biden laptop story.
“I mean, basically, the background here is the FBI, I think, basically came to us, some folks on our team, and was like, ‘Hey, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert. There was, we thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically, there’s about to be some kind of dump that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant,’” Zuckerberg said.
“So our protocol is different from Twitter’s. What Twitter did is they said, ‘You can’t share this at all.’ We didn’t do that,” Zuckerberg continued. “What we do is we have, if something was reported to us as potentially misinformation, important misinformation, we also use third-party fact-checking program, because we don’t want to be deciding what’s true and false. And for the — I think it was five or seven days when it was basically being determined whether it was false, the distribution on Facebook was decreased, but people were still allowed to share it. So you could still share it; you could still consume it.”
Zuckerberg said that the reduced distribution on the platform meant that the story was ranked lower in people’s newsfeeds “so fewer people saw it than would have otherwise.”
Zuckerberg said that the down-ranking of the story had a “meaningful” impact in how many people saw it.
“So depending on what side of the political spectrum, you either think we didn’t censor it enough or censored it way too much,” he continued. “But we weren’t sort of as black and white about it as Twitter. We just kind of thought, hey, look, if the FBI, which I still view is a legitimate institution in this country, it’s like very professional law enforcement, they come to us and tell us that we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously.”
Zuckerberg couldn’t recall the exact details of what the FBI said or if it was in reference to that specific story, but he said that it “basically fit the pattern.”
The government “by law” is not allowed to suppress information (1st Amendment) – thus as part of the coup against Trump they used the social-media backdoor to suppress information they wanted suppressed but they o/w could not suppress it themselves b/c of the 1st-Amendment – they ‘ve been doing this all along to silence their critics whether it was w.r.t. the Hunter laptop, Covid, or all the BS that went down in the 2020-election.
The social-media-backdoor was the precursor to the “Disinformation Board” the Biden administration was trying to incorporate which was likely unconstitutional – what you have here is those-in-power/the-government deciding on what is true and what is not and suppressing anyone that says otherwise – this is 3rd-world power-grab s***.
I imagine the left, including the FBI, likely forced the hand of social media – just like I doubt Zuckerberg “took it upon himself” to put almost half-a-Billion dollars into the 2020 election – I imagine he was “encouraged” by the powers-to-be.
Pre-2020 the left was constantly talking-about/threatening to break-up big-tech – you hardly here a peep about that now even though they are now in control/power.
The FBI is the Gestapo for the Socialist Nazis controlling Government. Ben Shapiro is very smart unlike the cock sucking pedophile named ThatX guy. You fucking cum stain. democrats lick homo ass.
Even I am smart enough to ost shit like this in the politics thread.
On a side note, I've been doing a fair bit of genealogy research lately, and I've made made contact with a couple of my grandfather's nieces who came over her in the late 50s. We've been discussing some of the political similarities between the current US and then Germany. Their view is that the current "mainstream" reactionary elements of the GOP and the radical far left both are very reminiscent of the Nazi sentiments prevalent in Germany before and during WW II.
^Makes perfect sense which is why I hate progressives and Donald Trump. The USA is like a very large ocean liner with a small, irreparable hole in it: we cannot be fixed, but it will be years before we all drown and die.
The ultra right and ultra left control the narrative lately. It's virtually impossible for a centrist, or even someone with a brain, to get a word in edgewise.
Centrist commentary doesn't generate the engagement the more extreme positions do. As a result, it's less represented on social platforms. Traditional platforms have seen the kind of revenue generated by the social platforms and increasingly mimicked the behavior as they attempt desperately to cling to their relevance hoping to wring every last bit of value they can from the assets they have left. Both sides of the political spectrum have become increasingly reliant upon exaggeration and hyperbole to generate support, fueling the fire even more.
^ Most "centrists" aren't really thus; they're partisans claiming the "centrist" mantle for credibility.
There is no such thing as a purely logic-driven human. No matter how many data points and coherent arguments we're presented with, we all have biases from our upbringings, life experiences, and balance of neurotransmitters. Even people of good faith can come to disparate conclusions.
I read arguments from both sides and come to my own conclusions. And yes, I generally find center-right positions to have the most merit, but I'm always willing to entertain another argument (not an insult or emote).

It’s a video of Mark Zuckerberg speaking during an interview. How is it a questionable news source?
The story isn’t about Hunter Biden (although that is news worthy because it documents foreign influence on the Biden family), it’s about the forces in the government and within the FBI conspiring to suppress information and influence the presidential election.
^ This was a routine notification by the FBI to the private sector of potential foreign interference. Russia attempted to influence the election, under Putin's authorization. The FBI can't and doesn't force companies to do anything. Any action FB took was FB's decision.
"No matter how many data points and coherent arguments we're presented with, we all have biases from our upbringings, life experiences, and balance of neurotransmitters."
So true. There is an external reality out there but it's hard to see it because of various biases. I have found, though, I have a better and more successful life if I can get my beliefs to coincide with reality as closely as possible. All humans are imperfect, though, so I've held dumb beliefs which got me into trouble when I acted on them.
Our current political-climate goes beyond biases - in our current climate, people are gonna believe what they wanna believe facts-be-damned - our current climate is not about discussing differences, it's about smearing, lying, and suppressing/attacking points-of-views - we are headed more towards dictatorship by those in power and farther from democracy and our constitution - in today's political-climate, right and wrong, and the law, often has to do with what party or group you belong to.
FBI told Facebook to be on high alert because there was about to be a dump of Russian misinformation and to be vigilant. Sounds like they were telling them what to do. But the FBI also knew that it wasn't misinformation because they had the laptop since the previous year.

You can if you just speak up.
I would rather hear about his absurd exploits. This is guy gives Gawker a run for his money.
