I was at my 40th high school reunion and an old buddy told me a very hot girl from our class had a bad drug addiction at some point in the 90s and was out on the street turning tricks for cheap during that time in her life.
My reaction was, “You’re just telling this now?”
He didn’t laugh and said it’s nothing to joke about.
Was I wrong?

Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
Seriously, everyone is so afraid being labeled "insensitive", "predatory", "misogynistic", and so on that they are afraid to laugh. Call a spade a spade, call a dumb idea retarded, if she's got nice tits giver her a wink and a nod. Part of the problem is that people are afraid to laugh because someone somewhere might get triggered.
Why doesn't Natalie Wood like to take showers? She'd rather wash up on shore.
^Ha ha! I agree - fuck ‘em. The guy was a douche bag.
wondered how that old buddy would have responded if you asked, "how much did you think she was charging?'
The drugs, the girl, the drama, all of it? It might've just been a hot-button topic for him.
🔺 He probably feels for her, & probably don't know all the info on her, he don't want you talkin' about her with others, so he tried to shut you, & for the safety of both, you don't wanna open up a can of worms. She could have gotten lucky or had rough roads.
@rattdog: "wondered how that old buddy would have responded if you asked, "how much did you think she was charging?'"
Better: "How much did she charge you?"
Insensitive? Yes. But if you were channeling your high school selves, this could have gone either way. It might also depend on the sensibilities of the “townies” who stayed in the local community vs the folks who went to college and moved away to bigger and better opportunities.
Yeah I think the joke was a joke, but none of us know the dynamic. That seems like a weird reaction so that sounds like a sorry dude didn't know you knew her like that situation...if they were an actual friend of mine.
^ yes, he was much more of a friend and in her social circle during and after high school than I was.
he probably gave her 100 bucks in exchange for fucking her - then got an STD - that IS NOTHING TO JOKE ABOUT
Poor girl. I am glad she cleaned her life up
Be glad you missed the "opportunity." A guy I worked with in New Orleans had strongly hinted that he had been an addict in the past using coke and smack. He literally seemed to know where all the unmarked methadone clinics were. We tested regularly for drugs, including randoms, anniversaries, and for cause. He had cleaned his life up and worked his way up from a greenhorn to a branch manager. When he was off his tools, as an outside sales guy, he reunited with the hot chick from high school. He was a twice divorced father with part-time custody of his kids. With this new professional title and regular office hours, he got more time with his kids, bought a big house with a pool, and that got her attention. He showed me pictures. She was an exhibitionist that defied aging. In her 40s, she would make 25-year olds jealous. She got him hooked back on drugs, cost him his job (refused a for cause test when he came in high), cost him his house, and he was back on the street as a garden-variety New Orleans junkie working day jobs for his next fix and getting picked up by the cops on warrants for unpaid child support. She brought her tight ass over to the next sucker who was ready to ruin his life for Voodoo Poonanny.
There’s a difference when this happens to someone you know well VS next guy on the street.
The OP’s friend either had the hots for her, and never got past the white knight stage of male mentality, or had a family member or a close one, who struggled with drugs. Do it isn’t too much of a joke to him. You weren’t really wrong. Just honest, based on your life experience.
People who enjoy dark humor are smarter
You admitted to be willing to help her financially, to compensate her, so if anything you actually showed you care, with your response.
I have had multiple stripper regulars who became addicted to drugs. While it is not a thing I would joke about, I only have a limited amount of sympathy for them. A lot of people have rough lives without succumbing to drug or alcohol addictions. Those who do often end up being a burden on society and bring great pain to their loved ones.
