People who are being targeted that way need to learn to defend themselves. There are warnings, and serious warnings. If the party is in a place they should not be they should be advised that they must leave, or submit to citizens arrest and lie face down on the floor. Now this book is written for practicing pediatricians and it is coming out of Rhode Island where they have only one isolation ward for the entire state, at the children's hospital in Providence. So they get the cases of all races and classes there. It is revelatory.

The kinds of child abuse perpetrated by the working-class get prosecuted because they are so easy to detect. But with the middle-class it is different. They know what the laws are, and so their abuses always revolve around doctors of one sort or another. The doctor's licensing makes it impossible to prosecute.

And while doctors are most certainly subject to mandatory reporting, and the public clinic doctors do comply with this, the doctors in private practice do not. Private practice doctors would quickly be out of business if it became known that they report.

It is important that outside authorities intercede. The doctors should be doing this as they are mandatory reporters. But as private practice doctors serve at the pleasure of the parents, they don't. The doctors back up the parent by perpetuating the autism hoax.
