I know people who use gender-neutral language (including Latinx) and I know people who don't. It costs me nothing to refer to people according to their preferences, and when I've gotten it wrong there has never been any sort of conflict or hurt feelings. I get a correction and move on.

All languages that are in active use change over time. And the reasons for it vary wildly (to include politics and societal influences). You can whine about it all you want, but that change will happen.

It's not hilarious. It's a common term used by Spanish speaking people from the south west. Some old people still use Californiano.

I'm not sure what the difference b/w Latin and Hispanic is - I grew up using both but us Cubans I think tend to use Hispanic more for some reason. The media seems to use the term Latino for the Latin/Hispanic community; e.g. "Latino voters" etc; and this is why Anglos use the term when referring to Latin dancers – I really don’t know why the media uses the term “Latino community” vs “Latin community” – IDK how that may have started and if it’s correct or not.

In Spanish you would say “la comunidad LatinA” for “the Latin community” or “el pueblo LatinO” “the Latin people”.

If the term “Latino” is indeed a correct/proper way to describe Latins/Hispanics, then I guess one could refer to Latin dancers as Latino dancers since the English language does not have male/female distinctions in the language – i.e. Latina is not an English word.

As was mentioned in a previous comment, another term TUSCLers often butcher is when they are talking about Colombian-women/dancers; more-often-than-not they all write ColUmbian vs ColOmbian.

Generally Brazilians are considered Latinos, but now Hispanics. Haitians are also considered Latinos. But it seems French Canadians and Cajuns are not considered Latinos, which never made sense to me.

The funniest, and most perplexing, interaction I had with a Hispanic woman was when a friend introduced me to his date. The topic of "where are you from" came up and she said she was Spanish. Hispanics will argue ceaselessly between themselves about anything to do with Hispanic culture. I have seen them argue about who has authentic food, authentic music, even who speaks proper Spanish without an accent (a true Spanish accent is beautiful). But all agree the term Latinx was by guilty white liberal SJWs who know nothing about them or their culture. And, Hondurans are from Honduras, not Spain.

When I was a regular at the Cadillac Lounge, there was a night when I struck up a brief conversation with a guy at the bar.
