Where are the old-style clubs with the movie-theater kind of stage, maybe with a runway? The Market Street Theater in san Francisco is one. The Crazy Horse near it is a modified one. Any other cities?
The only 'movie theater stage with a runway' that I can recall is the newly refurbished Christie's Cabaret in the 'Flats' of Cleveland, Ohio. I was there last year during their rennovation and noted that they had changed their stage to have a long staircase downward onto a 'runway' type stage that also had two round type stages that the dancers can stop at and dance.
That Christies stairs and stage layout must be standard for them. The Christies in Phoenix is like that. So is Le Girls West in Phoenix, which until recently was The Penthouse Club. I think now it is mostly an upscale club feature. It allows them to make a big deal out of the cattle call (all girls parade).
New York City used to have them around Times Square. I never went to one, and I'm not sure whether any of them are still open. One story has it that lap dancing originated there when strippers first came out into the audience. A lot of old big cities theatres and burlesque houses converted to combine showings of porn films with stage performances have closed. Another place I kick myself for never getting to before it was shut down in about 1995 was the notorious Wood-Six in Detroit, actually Highland Park, at Woodward and Six Mile. They had strippers who danced between porn flicks, then circulated through the audience during the films. I was told by a girl who had worked there that whole rows of seated men would greet them with rubbers on their dicks, which the girls would "sit on" for tips. Sounded so disgusting I wished I had checked it out.
