There are enough iPhone users on the forum that this might be of interest.

Apple is shifting much of its manufacturing from China to India. They expect 55,000 new Apple jobs in India within the year. They will assemble iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Apple suppliers are also moving to India.

The recent Trump ban on TikTok and Wechat may require Apple to remove them from the App Store. It’s estimated this will cut worldwide iPhone sales by 30%, mainly because wechat is so popular in parts of the world.

It's about time - America shouldn't be doing business with a communist country that has empire-building aspirations

^Generally agree. Indisputable that China seeks to be the dominant global military and commercial power.

Decoupling from China was always going to be a multi year process. We needed to give US companies some time to transition. Apple, more than anyone, was at risk. It’s good to see they figured it out.

Apple isn't the only company with a Chinese problem, Ten Cent owns a major stake in Tesla, AMC is headquartered in China, there's tons and tons of companies GM is a partner with a Chinese auto group I believe it's Shangai Automotive is a majority shareholder, the list is long, and goes back a long time, Rockefeller Center is owned by a Chinese real estate company. This isn't new or even groundbreaking, it's been going on for years.

The CCP’s instinct, when companies complain about how they are being treated, is to clamp down even harder. This year, the mask came off. As one protester said “ Don’t trust China. China is asshole.”

Five years ago, most companies thought they could do business with China. Their eyes have been opened. Now, all companies are looking for an exit strategy. Problem is, their assets and money are stuck in China. No way to get them out.

    India population: 1.3 Billion

Also, in India there is rule of law. If a business makes a profit, it keeps it. In China, currency restrictions make it impossible to move your profits out of the country. What’s the point of selling phones for a profit if you aren’t allowed to take the profits ?

India’s economy is projected to grow at a base rate of 7.5% annually to 2030 according to an analysis from Bain & Company, with 500 million people moving into the middle- and high-income bracket over the period.

China can't be trusted politically, militarily, or when it comes to business; despite what other arguments can be made in its favor

"think about it, by 2026 the chinese want 2x the number of middle class consumers than the US"

That's not going to happen because thankfully China has showed it's true colors too soon.

Also, China is still a relatively poor country because even if they had 500 million middle class that would still leave them with a billion poor people. And those people aren't American style "poor" they're actually in bad shape.

I always figured that Hollywood bows to China because China is communist, and so are all the liberals in Hollywood.

@DesertScrub on bar re-openings in Arizona - Doug Ducey should be giving another corona virus press conference on Thursday at 3:00. If there is going to be any change, it will be announced then.

I'm given up predicting what he is going to do, but I would be surprised if he re-opens bars then. All of the corona virus metrics are improving, but given that they all started improving exactly two weeks after he shut down the bars, it's pretty easy to guess what the catalyst was.

We have actually had two days in a row with well under 1,000 new cases. Granted, that is based on people who were tested on Saturday and Sunday, but still, the numbers are undeniably better than they were a month ago.

The question is "Does Ducey want to risk going back to where we were when the virus is still active in the community?"

This shut down shit was supposed to be 2 weeks to flatten the curve. Somehow, it morphed into 2 years to eliminate the virus. I guess I didn’t get the memo.

I’m thinking the ban on bars, concerts, and so on will continue until an effective vaccine is available. I wonder if any politician will ever explain their reasoning on CoVid.
