During her time in the industry, she was one of the most attractive actresses, and then her popularity jolted up because she did a whole lot of everything at least once, including fetishes considered taboo at the time. (Stuff that may be more accepted now, but mid to late 2000s... not so much.). Star Trek fans may remember Mudd’s women. A group of women given a placebo drug they believed made them attractive. Their resulting confidence actually did make them attractive to men. For women like JLo and ScarJo, there might be something like that going on.

I concur that Jolie, Johansson and Barrymore do nothing for me. Not ugly, just not that attractive to me. I will add (sorry all you big butt midget lovers) Kim Kardashian to the list as well as Uma Thurman and the Hadid sisters.

Weird - I think every woman mentioned in this thread is hot. Admittedly some more than others. Every single one (in their prime) would be considered outstanding if they were dancers at a club you went to.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me one of the worst is Barbra Streisand. Even my mother described her as homely.

Beauty is much an attitude as looks. A lot of these ladies acted hot. So in the movies they were hot. In one still photo taken out of context maybe not so much.

I feel like a lot of the listed females mentioned in this thread (not all) boil down to being more “girl hot” than “guy hot”.

By “girl hot” I mean it’s somebody attractive and has a sense of style. But maybe doesn’t have the quality of being as “fuckable”. For example, Sarah Jessica Parker is known for a sense of style and great hair and clear skin. And she’s most well known for chick-flicks like Sex and the City. Megan Fox had a certain amount of sultry and a bad bitch aspect to her and is someone who is “guy-hot”. Sarah Jessica Parker had a play-nice image and Megan Fox talked about before that it was difficult for her making friends (especially female friends)

Lizzo is an obvious example of girl-hot who was able to be portayed as a dancer in the Hustlers movie, despite that she would be laughed out of any Manhattan Club audition if she tried IRL. But hey, in fantasy chick flicks, somebody who can make it as girl-hot can cross over to guy-hot as well.

Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie were both able to toe the line of being both “girl-hot” and “guy-hot” at the same time in the public eye it seemed. But even then, I think Aniston leaned more “girl-hot”. Jolie leaned more “guy-hot” And all that was why the public went especially apeshit over the Bradgelina thing. Saga battle of the “pretty” vs “sexy” It’s tough to be both.

I agree about Julia Roberts. Years ago, Rolling Stone did an extensive piece on her and included a photo from when she was in high school. Wow, she was *definitely* cute then. Years ago I met and spent hours with a very popular Hollywood sex symbol who was donating her time to a worthwhile charity event. @nicespice - Re: Angelina Jolie. Guys were smitten with the Lara Croft video game character long before the movie came out. That might sound weird, but it's certainly not uncommon. It was much the same with the Jessica Rabbit cartoon character in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I remember playing Tomb Raider (I think on PS2 back then?) and all we could think/talk about was if there was a real-life woman like Lara Croft, how fuckin' hot she would be. To her credit (and the makeup artists and wardrobe people) Angelina made a really good Lara Croft, but at least half the infatuation with the actress at that time was the feeling like she was a "fantasy come to life." I'm not saying she wasn't a good-looking woman, and I'm not even so sure she belongs on this list, but the only time I ever thought she looked genuinely smokin' hot was in the Tomb Raider movies, more because of the character than the actress. I remember watching two movies in the mid 90s. One was Beautiful Girls and the other was The Truth About Cat And Dogs. If you still haven't figured it out, the "hottie" in both of these movies was Uma Thurman. It was amusing to me that all the guys and even the girls in both of these movies would fawn all over her and i would think those were some of the worst brainwashing attempts i've ever seen. I'm not saying that she was unattractive, but i didn't get it. Still don't. This was also repeated in Kill Bill to a degree. I agree, but I also think you're making an argument that's a bit circular. There are women 10x hotter -- in a classic beauty sense -- than even the hottest female leads. Why? Why aren't the hottest actresses the ones who are "money in the bank"? Shouldn't their hotness make them even more money in the bank? Or, as you yourself asked, "why can't they let that piece of ass in the background be the major star instead?" I mean, even models that make it as actresses, aren't the hottest models (cue Milla Jovovich). There's a few exceptions who prove the rule (for me, young Halle Berry hits it), but I'm not sure there's any model-beautiful leading ladies, and exceptions are rare.

I suspect there's an answer to this, and that answer is: for whatever reason, audiences don't take to those impossibly beautiful women in those roles. We are okay with them as supporting actresses, we love them as models and instagram influencers (and in our collective case, strippers). But there's a direct cause-and-effect here: the most gorgeous classically beautiful women aren't appealing as leading ladies in movies, just supporting actresses, character actresses, mean girls, etc.

2) Cameron Diaz.
3) Gal Gadot. (This is a tough add to the list. I think she is pretty, but not like top 10 hot, where is gets ranked in some lists. I like her personality though, and would buy her a drink before buying a dance, but then I'd buy a dance from her in the end.)
