I was going to ask for a source for bd's declaration. Anyway I've already gone on record here claiming that we will someday fight China and should do it now while we still have a chance to win it.

China has been at war with us ( economic, cyber, cultural, diplomatic ) for 30 years. We finally realized it. If it becomes a kinetic war, we have all the advantage. China knows that. Even so, picking a war with Taiwan may be the only way to stop an uprising against the CCP.

Why would we want a war with China? They make all the stuff you buy on Amazon and in Walmart.

Jackslash is right. Conversely why would they make war on their biggest customer?

Tyrants use war to distract and rally their population. China is already leading a massive PR campaign to convince its people that everything bad happening is a result of US actions.

What would cause a shooting war between the US and the ChiComms? Not Coronavirus. That war would be waged publicly through diplomacy and economic sanctions, covertly through media and PR campaigns, clandestinely through various intelligence and alphabet soup agencies. That war has begun, and the DNC needs to get on board with winning it and stop the politically correct horseshit. A Taiwan invasion? What exactly is our agreement with Taiwan? Is it a mutual defense treaty? I have a hard time understanding why one American life should be lost in defense of Taiwan. Ditto for the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, et al. However, there was that Philippina dancer in Sarasota that damned near started a battle with the RIL she had. A regular Asian Helen of Troy. However, we may need to assist any China antagonist in preventing the ChiComms from solidifying their false claims on the South China Sea. I could see that turning into a local theater shooting war, and would only hope it did not spread. If China attacked Australia or Japan, we would need to enter on the side of either valuable ally, and that would engulf the entire Pacific Ocean, and potentially lead to direct Chinese strikes on Hawaii and the US west coast. As others have pointed out, though, the economic effects of war between the US and China would be globally disastrous. I do not think either government wants to come anywhere close to that kind of brinksmanship, but there may also be some Chinese cowboy commander out there that wants to "bloody our navy's nose" thinking that we would turn tail and abandon the South China Sea. That would have worked on Obama, but not Trump...

LOL get real. US would never start anything with a nuclear power country, that's why with all the shit talk, we never did anything to North Korea. And we had to suckered Libya denuclearized first, before toppling Quddafi.

That's where you're wrong, RamPaige. Trump did exactly that, and he did in an extremely intelligent and measured fashion, of course with the advisors' input. If you remember the SECOND time we confirmed Assad used chemical weapons against his people, after they called Obama's bluff, Trump made good on America's word. In conjunction with French and English forces, America launched punitive strikes against Assad and his Russian allies. The Russians have more nuclear weapons that we do. That is why France and England were asked to participate in the strikes. The message to Putin was clear, three nuclear armed countries were warning him and Assad to not test us again. Trump never did anything to DPRK because Seoul is too far north, within range if even Kim's shitty, antiquated artillery. That is why nothing has ever been done to North Korea. Seoul would be destroyed in minutes by the north, making it a pyrrhic victory. Libya never had nukes. We bombed their nuclear reactor back in the 80s before it went online. Later, Qaddafi caved to the Bush Doctrine of unilateral preemptive strikes against exporters of internation terror.

Amazing that people still project their own feelings onto the Chinese, as If they look at life even remotely close to the way we do. We may be an imperfect nation, but China is Mao and Mao exterminated 20 million people, their figure, so probably more, in the cultural revolution. If you doubt that they would not be unwilling to accept 500 million dead to kill all of us, you're a twit.

I doubt that we will be at war with the Chinese or anyone else anytime soon, we’ve got real problems here at home that we need to resolve, I know you guys think that’s how we are going to distract from our own mess, but at this point in time we don’t have the will and our leaders are doing their best to divide us for their own benefit There will be no consensus to convene a war with the Chinese and believe that we will need a consensus or that will be an adventure that will end badly

The Chinese culture believes in something called the Mandate of Heaven. Political leaders are allowed to stay in power as long as things are going well for the people. That’s a sign that the heavens approve of the leadership. However, if things go badly for the people, that’s a signal that the leadership no longer has a mandate and must be removed by the people. Well, things are not going well in China’s economy and they are only going to get worse. The thugs who control the Chinese Communist Party have feared this day and have prepared for it. They spent billions, maybe trillions, building a security apparatus to spy on its people and identify anyone who rocks the boat. Oftentimes, these people simply disappear, never to be seen again. They control all media and have pressed a nationalist meme to convince the people that the CCP is protecting its people from evil powers like the US. If you’ve ever read Orwell’s 1984, you understand what this is all about. If these efforts fail to control the Chinese people’s anger, the only play the CCP has to keep power is to declare a threat from outside and go on a war footing. A war is irrational but it makes sense if you realize that the only thing that matters to the 2,000 thugs who control the CCP is staying in power. They are willing to trigger a destruction of the world economy, and hundreds of millions dead, if it keeps them in power.

War with the China is unlikely, but wars always seem to start in the least likely places. Who would have thought on Sept. 10, 2001, that within a month we would be engaged in an almost 20 year long war in Afghanistan.

.,... Or an almost 70 year cease fire in Korea, or still defending leeches in Europe from Russia who is far less dangerous to us than China, or letting the Iranians and Hezbollah off the hook for murdering Marines, or still paying for and hosting the despicable UN, or only have men subject to being drafted while we pretend women want to be equal in all ways....

The powerful need an enemy real or imagined to stay in power. All this talk about Russia or China being our enemy...dig a little deeper and you will the leaders all party and get rich together while the peasants stay poor and live in fear.

I've been to China several times on business, since the early nineties. It's much more open than people here generally think. With the opening up of the economy, it's also opened up the growing middle class to conversations with westerners. That growing middle class is why we need to continue to develop trade with china, it's a huge growing market that love s US products. While the people there are wary of the government, (actually all Asian countries seem to have more respect for their government than we do as far as voicing desent) they all seem to have, and share, a VPN that gives them full access to the WWW.

Super-powers know better than to go to war with each other - too much to lose on both sides - at most they'll go at each other via proxy-wars as during the cold-war, vs a direct-war, and both military and commercial espionage; as well as cyber-attacks to some degree - anything can happen but a direct military conflict is unlikely IMO

Newsflash we are already at war with China and Russia. Unlike these 3rd world backwards countries where women have to cover up and war is basically blowing up their buildings, there is a race for economic and intellectual dominance that has been happening for years. War with super powers will not be about killing people and nukes, but slyly traversing economic dominance. This is why capitalism is so important, it encourages creation of the next ‘thing’ consumers want.

@Papi_Chulo "anything can happen but a direct military conflict is unlikely IMO." Maybe not. But if everybody is Kung Fu fightning, that might be worse.
