I've never been a fan of a hairy bush.
But, I can appreciate a nicely trimmed area or a completely bald one. Not sure I have an absolute preference, it depends on the girl. I've asked OTC girls with a landing strip to shave it. I've asked bald girls to grown it out a bit. In some cases I've changed my mind and they've gone back to what they wanted. In some, they liked it better the other way too.
I do always like the actual pussy shaved though, its just a little hair above that sometimes is appealing.
I agree that trimmed doesn’t put me off. I would say completely shaved is ideal but having it doesn’t bother me when it is trimmed whereas a full bush is a bit much.
My preference is smooth. However, I am a product of the 70's & 80's, so if it smells and tastes good, I am more than happy to bury my nose in a soft bush.
Back in the early 60's I dated a 17 yo that was a dancer..Chorus line and ballet. On the night we were about to embark on our first sex she informed me ahead of time that she was shaved so that I wouldn't be shocked. I'm glad she did. It of course was done to keep pubic hair from sticking our of the skimpy costumes that they wore. I went a couple of decades before I saw another.

The 70's bush became world famous, not because women weren't hairy previously, but because oral sex sisn't become super popular until the late 60's/earluy 70's. That's pretty interesting. I've heard before that a lot of people in the 60s thought that oral sex was kind of out there in terms of sexual activities. Like if you were in high school during the 60s it was much easier to have vaginal sex with a girl than to get a blowjob from one. But today its the opposite, its much easier to get a girl to give you a blowjob in high school than have intercourse.

Things have changed to the point where a bj isn't considered sex by many young people and when I was young fucking was fine for most girls/women but a bj was considered so personal it was reserved for someone special.
