Decriminalize prostitution to stimulate economy

Monday, November 19, 2018 3:05 PM
Does this line of logic make sense? If no, why not? It’s somewhat well known among economists and financial experts that women control the majority of consumer spending in the US. Therefore, if prostitution increased and thus their incomes increased, would that cause consumer spending in the US to increase as well, albeit by a very small amount?

    I’d believe that.

Decriminalizing prostitution will stimulate more than the economy.

Not necessarily because the reason for women controlling the majority of consumer spending ties into the fact that they are the party that does a lot of the household spending. Women are more often responsible for most, if not all, of the household because they are the primary support for the children and by default the entire family. As a result, decriminalizing prostitution would really have no impact on this because for the most part women are not going to give their significant other money to visit prostitutes just because it is legal and johns are going to visit prostitutes regardless of the legality, thus the increase in revenue would not be astronomical. Yes, there would be an increase, but some of that would then be offset by the government wanting their cut in taxes on the women's revenue.

Overall it would not have a huge impact to stimulate the economy.

A recent study indicates it would increase GDP by 0.0136%

Although it is hard to argue with Kentucky logic, the lotteries, Indian casinos, and legalization of a certain plant product have shown that tax revenue can be generated by popular sin. Once the government sees the potential for revenue, likely it will bend the rules claiming to be creating a safe environment.

Too bad Dennis passed. He won his government seat...even running as a dead man. Likely he would have led the fight to change the rules.

^ Why would he have wanted increased competition?

To Dennis it would not be increasing competition, but increase his ability to expand his enterprise. He started with one, the Moonlight Bunny Ranch, and expanded it into six brothels scattered over Nevada. When he bought it, the Mustang Ranch was the premiere brothel and the Bunny Ranch was a dump. He was a master marketer and rule bender who put the Bunny Ranch on the map.

For example, Nevada law says you cannot have a lit sign advertising a brothel. So what did Dennis do? He bought the auto parts store next door (originally Dennis was a car dealer, so this actually made some sense). He renamed it Moonlight Auto Parts and put a sign on the same post as the Bunny Ranch. It was just coincidence that the spotlight that lit the auto parts sign also lit the Bunny Ranch sign.

He also had billboards on highway 50 in California and advertisements in many giveaway newspapers. Of course you cannot advertise as a brothel, but Dennis found ways around that by advertising other aspects of his "resorts."

From the grave Dennis? I am sure that you will be remembered forever, but I didn't expect you to reach out from the great beyond. Party on.

What people refuse to understand is that everyone has a limited disposable income so increasing spending in one area takes away from the others.

Honestly the only economic impact this would have would be a reduction in savings as more money is spent instead of saved. No real short term impact, but there is serious potential for long term financial hardship after retirement.

Only economic advantage would be that we could tax what is already being done. But there is just no reason to even discuss this matter. Any congressman that would bring up any such legislation would immediately be voted out of office. Virtually all women would vocally oppose it. It would be the end of that congressman's career.

Yes decriminalize it and pop will come down to like $30 like in Brazil.

The cost issue is secondary. Get the service model right first. Front room makeout sessions, that's what the NV houses lack, and that screws up everything else.

I say that we have to give credit where credit is due. Given the sorry state of NV laws, I feel that DV is trying:

So the body has been identified, it is the 32yo Ian Powers who vanished at the 11/12 Monday night football game.

They are saying that it was an accidental drowning, and now the case is closed.
