Are you afraid of the dark?

Avatar for gammanu95
gammanu95Have you ever tried to stick a silver dollar into a stripper's G-string?

We've all seen the 2AMer reports, and there have even been some in Ft. Myers. And since I moved, I don't get to club as much as I used to or as much as I'd like. It also seems that Ft. Myers is just not a decent daytime club town. Especially in snowbird season when they would rather sit with harmless old regulars who love to buy them drinks and tip just for the company. However, on other review sites, locals from this area keep talking about how they refuse to go to Ft. Myers in general and especially the clubs after 9PM.

Ft. Myers does not strike me as a particularly dangerous city, laughably so. Admittedly, I grew up in Chicago and spent my 20s and 30s in New Orleans. Even in those cities, the rules are the same. Keep your head on a swivel. Don't make yourself a target. Don't go looking for trouble. Know when to walk away, know when to run. I've been the sole white guy in a New Orleans black club, the sole gringo in a Ft. Myers club full of Latinos, and the sole guy not in the MC in a Chicago dive; but I have never had any problems with anyone.

There are places where I would think twice about venturing out alone (and in a strip club people expect you to be holding a lot of cash), but I have not had that problem, yet. Anyone else?

One of the cities I work in has a fairly high crime rate. Even though they don’t really care if you leave early, if you stay at the end of the night, then they will keep you in the building until the parking lot has been cleared. This is standard in most of the clubs.

Never had a problem but there is one situation that I'll never repeat. Back in the early 70's my best friend and I visited a whore house in Culiacan, the marijuana capital of Mexico. We were driving our '55 VW dune buggy on the way back from driving the Baja and visiting Acapulco, etc. We were the only gringos in the place. While I was being entertained by one of the putas my buddy took a couple of guys out for a ride in the dune buggy. When he came back in he said "I think we had better leave right now. The want to buy the dune buggy. They are offering $500 and $500 worth of pot. I'm afraid of what might happen if we say no."

We left immediately and I'll never do that again. I

In some places, and I think enhanced by the alcohol factor, bars can be dangerous areas.

Here in CA, the nude clubs are always alcohol free.

Personally I think some type of membership club approach would be good for strip clubs.

Swinger's Clubs use this. They don't need to have Thug Bouncers. They have Care Bears.

I feel safe at Pleasant Moments in Bridgeport, even at night and have been to the outer space club which is in the worst neighborhood in philly. Never feel unsafe and never had a problem. A buddy and I were threatened with a gun in an all black club in Washington DC in 1978 when we took some time off from moving furniture on a hot day; however, it ended well when one of the strippers we were drinking with stabbed the guy with the gun and management threw him out. That scared the shit out of me.

Also, some of the guys who ran our underground circuit said that they did their late shows, 10pm till midnight. They explained that that gave the guys about till 1:30am till get cooled down before they had to leave and go out into the parking lot.

I had never thought about that, but it does sound like closing time can be a time of parking lot violence.

At my favorite club in a small depressed city, the dancers are escorted to their cars after closing and have been since I started going there 10 years ago. Some PL's aren't as mellow as we are. I've heard stories from dancers regarding stalkers following their car, being approached in the parking lot by disgruntled customers, threats being made, etc. Nude dancers are subject to scrutiny in more ways than I'm used to.

Daytime is safer I believe. I’m going to try that for a bit. I’ve had too many close calls at night with the intoxicated young bucks

Though it is always go to be aware of your surroundings and have some general awareness. But the swivel head thing has me LOLing. If anything, what you're describing might drawing unwanted attention and or send the wrong signal. I just send a don't fuck with me or I'm not worth the trouble vibe. I've only been confronted a few times.
