OT: what to do and where to go

gammanu95
My casual drinking is your alcohol poisoning.
Pulse nightclub massacre. Ft. Lauderdale airport terror attack. Parkland school shooting. Hurricane Irma. Alligators eating kids at Disney World. Nile crocodiles and Burmese pythons taking over the everglades. Catastrophic sinkhole fatalities. Fatal pedestrian bridge collapse at FIU. Constant harassment from shadowcat.

From Chicago, to New Orleans, to Florida. Out the frying pan and into the fire, and then to the sewer pipe. Apart from two world class strip club destinations - Miami and Tampa, there is nothing in Florida that cannot be found elsewhere in the US. If not for my wife's medical practice, I would seriously leave this fucking state. What's keeping other Florida residents here, and where would you go if you left?

I enjoy the national exposure we get from our upstanding residents such as Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman.

We have excellent pro football, baseball, and basketball teams.

I'm only a visitor, but almost everywhere I've been in Florida (Tampa/St. Pete area, Sarasota, Ft. Myers/Sanibel, the nature coast, and St. Augustine) are brilliant. Orlando can be a bit much but there are some nice attractions. The only place I've been that I found a pit is Jacksonville.

I'm talking about non-strip club aspects. I have been to a few of the Tampa/St. Pete clubs (actually, more like those on the drive up and down the nature coast from Tampa) and they are definitely ace! I need to try more the next time I am there!

Some folks make this state better by staying others by leaving, the OP could improve the IQ of our beautiful state by moving to a shithole planet, I wouldn’t wish the OP on any of the rest of you.
May I suggest someplace uninhabited like Pluto.

I don't make the news. I just report it. :)

I have a friend that lives in Pensacola. He was born and raised near Toronto and now refuses to live north of I-10.

I-10 is like 0-degree latitude for the deep south. If you go further north in the other states, well, you are headed north. If you head further south from I-10 in Florida, you're heading north again.

As far as the Canuckleheads... at least they're better drivers than those worthless fucking New Englanders.

I had the opportunity for work years ago to move to Florida but just the Q-tip heads alone and their driving skills was enough to convince me I wanted no part of it.

I'll visit for a week every couple of years in mid winter but even then I'm ready to come home at the end of the week.

I don't live in Florida but watched another one of those time traveler YouTube videos that says Florida will be underwater by possibly sometime in the 2020's along with much of the eastern coastline below 400 feet plus or minus. I'd be generous and let a couple of hot single girls from Florida move in with me for some rent with reduced rent assuming they gave me Bj's and sex. Could be fun. Shadowcat would be on the new beach. I wouldn't be far.
Time travel videos are funny. Trump gets elected to second term. NK shoots a nuke at Honolulu in 2020 but it gets shot down. We return fire with 2 nukes and Kim is no more. Then one year later we go to war with China and Russia and battlefield nukes are used in a brutal war. LA has a 10.2 earthquake dropping the west coast down 10 ft. Amazing details on a video I saw last night. Should be amusing to watch in a few years. The guy can claim he changed time of anything deviates.

Kind of like the time traveler who claimed there was going to be a civil war in the US before the US government changed it by doing 911 covertly. I never heard that one until last night. Another time traveler said Hillary and later on Chelsey would become president and things were horrible. He was trying to change it. Looks like he succeeded so far.

The one video said trump would try for a third term but still get impeached during his second term. Weird.

For starters, great weather (most of the time) and no state income tax.

Florida is a very diverse state - south FL is very different from central FL and north FL even more different - and the wast cost of FL is very different from the east-coast.

I def enjoy the lack of cold weather - the Miami heat/humidity can drive one mad in the summer months but I still take that over the northern winters.

Miami in particular is pretty-much as if it was a different country - the massive immigration does not make it feel like America - I like the fact Miami is somewhat similar to New York City in that's there's often something going-on; kinda has a vibe/beat fairly fast-pace to it - def not a sleep town/city.

But the quality of life in Miami is not that good down here - if it wasn't for my 88 y/o mom who's only known Miami and Cuba and doesn't speak English; not sure I'd still be down here (also have an 80 y/o aunt whom did not have any kids and I kinda take care of most things for her also).

I like Texas - Dallas has a lot to offer but a bit too-slow for a single-guy - but Houston is nice in my limited experience (big city to have everything but not have as many of the big-city problems as other big-cities; at least seemingly not to the same extent).

The quality of life everywhere in FL is less than most other places in the US, Miami is just a microcosm of the state as a whole. There are some exceptions in south Georgia -I mean northern Florida- where there are industry, infrastructure, and a better balance of population density.

And again, I want to point to the yankee shitheads that move here when they get tired making New York and New Jersey bad places to live, they come to Florida and ruin it for everyone. Nasty attitudes, self-righteous entitlement, and socialist values. People think FL is great because there are no state income taxes, but they make up for it in everything else - sales taxes, property taxes, court costs, fines, fees, et cetera, etc., the list is endless. Now, with still more Chicago and new england assholes moving south, and still more Canadians, it will not be long before they vote in democrat politicians who will increase taxes, reduce freedoms, and make this a miserably hot and humid version of Camden, NJ.

And the Cuban girls are overrated. Most of them are pudgy if not true porkers, and the lack of English skills make casual dating nearly impossible.

^ I thoroughly disagree with the quality of life comments re: Florida, though I do have to admit that most of my experience comes from what you call the S. GA part. When you grow up in population centers like the Boston and NY metro areas, you know what true population density feels like and it sucks ass. Even doing simple things like running out for a few grocery items is a chore because there are just so many people in the way everywhere you go. Florida is a breath of fresh air by comparison.

Then there is the weather. Then there are no state income taxes. Then there is the much cheaper cost of living (even utilities are a fraction of what they cost in the northeast). Then there is a much better cultural attitudes regarding rights and freedoms, including a noticeable lack of the Nanny state bullshit that seems to be getting worse by the year in places like NY and CT. Then there are...

Anyway, I've said enough. Maybe someone who grew up in Florida sees it changing in ways that he/she does not like, but for a refugee from the northeast with libertarian leanings, Florida is a little piece of heaven.

Miami traffic and construction will drive you crazy. High percentage of bad drivers and big time assholes here too. But I like it. Still young but prob a different story when older. Money talks down here. Can buy you almost everything.

^^^Money talks everywhere, but the mild weather overrides everything, I’ll just leave you with one thought, the wealthiest people from fifty states and most foreign countries have a major presence in this state. Think about that those of the 1% that could afford to live anyplace they choose, choosing to live here.

Florida has a massive population for a reason. Its a beautiful state with lots to do all season with a high quality of life and no income tax. On my travels around the country this is the state I am most fond of for all the factors. Yes as my work buddy who came from Florida said much of the state is "Jerry Springerville" (which is where we get most of our stories from) if you stick to the nice areas to live its great. I am finally looking for a place to buy there right now for future wintering and probable retirement or semi-retirement.

Any state that has citizes like twentyfive, flagooner, PapiChulo and Clubber is a great state. :) Then, the occasional hurricane to spice things up makes it an interesting place to be. I've enjoyed standing in 70 mph winds up in Virginia, I can only imagine 120-160 mph gusts

Papi posted: ---> "Florida is a very diverse state - south FL is very different from central FL and north FL even more different - and the wast cost of FL is very different from the east-coast."

I couldn't agree more with this. I have spent a lot of time all over FL and I wouldn't want to live in Miami either, or Tampa for that matter. Also, while I like having easy access to Orlando because my kids enjoy the Disney parks, I wouldn't want to spend more than a few days at a time there either.

But what many people who spend most of their time in the heavy tourist cities don't realize, there is a large stretch of eastern coastline in FL that is still lightly developed - pretty much from Cocoa Beach all the way up to the GA border. Even the JAX beach area is pretty easy to navigate compared to southern population centers. Where I now live, I buy a cheap beach pass for my SUV that is good for a whole year and drive right onto the beach whenever I want. There are also endless opportunities to participate in outdoor activities year-round. It is a wonderful place to raise children and all of the opportunities for adult side diversions is just a bonus.

And, of course, all of this is just in addition to everything I posted before. :)
