Wanted to say I appreciate all the work you put in around here over the last few weeks. Some of the worst trolls are gone, or at least silenced. The trolls left are harmless. I have noticed the quality and intelligence of topics and comments being discussed has gone up considerably. Thank you, this is much more enjoyable to visit here now...
Agreed. Thanks for the improvements Founder, and thanks for posting a non-shitting in McDonalds topic Crazy Joe...and of course, only posting it one time! :))))
4got, for me it isn't what a poster says, but whether they are posting the same inane nonsense over and over...also, if the only purpose of their "contribution" is to attack others without making any real point themselves. One of the worst on here didn't go on my ignore list until they launched their 100th personal, daily attack - same target, same topic. The unfortunate thing is that some of these folks are witty and have some good points. It is all in the delivery and not making the board a cluttered s-hole by posting non-topic, space wasting crap.
I don’t really understand the purpose of being an online troll, like other than wasting their own time, what do they get out of it? Like do they get off on it or something? I don’t get it at all. Anyways thanks for cleaning up the board.
I think its a matter of R-e-s-p-e-c-t for other members.
If you can tolerate opinions other than your own by all means comment and argue away! The tendency of a handful of users to shout over others/ poison threads that aren't your own is, however, nothing but despicable
I speak specifically of an individual who shouts "Chumps game!" and "Front room friendliness" to any discussion about VIP rooms, lap dances or p2p services. The view has been made known but its NOT a universal panacea to everything on the board (and don't get me started on the loonie-ness of the so-called Anti Psychiatry movement!)
Founder is to be applauded for taking out the trash!
Sjg... You can access all the old posts. They get locked from comments 2 weeks after their last comment. If you don't like it, just copy and paste the same post or post a link to the old posts. That will get people talking about whatever it is you want to rehash.
-->"I don’t really understand the purpose of being an online troll, like other than wasting their own time, what do they get out of it? Like do they get off on it or something?"
While I suspect you are being ironic :) ... there has in fact been a good amount of research on the psychology of online trolls, and it uniformly paints a pretty horrible miserable picture of what kind of people they are IRL.

With all due respect, I do not understand why you want to close off further posting on the old threads. As I see it, if one adds a post to an old thread, there is a good chance that others, new people, will read some of it, and then continue it. I think this is constructive.
I know that we will be able to start new threads and include links to the old ones. But I believe that being able to add posts directly to the old threads would increase the chances that others will read some of it and add to it.
As I see it, continuity in old threads is part of the boards character. It bolsters the claim that the board is a repository of some expertise. I for one have started threads with the idea that they would be getting continued. I think this shows.
Most message boards allow the continuation and bumping of old threads. Some even admonish people to search for old threads about the same topic before staring a new one.
Too many people here, often the trolls, are just starting new threads to get to shock people with the title listed in the index.
If threads are reused, then there are less new ones started, and it is easier to navigate. I for one have worked to limit my new threads to only one per 100 posts.
Many of the newer people are posting about stuff which has been discussed at great length even within the short span of my membership.
If the reason for closing them off had to do with costs, I could understand that, somehow a lower hosting cost for closed off threads. But otherwise I really do not understand why you would want to close them.
Also, a post link on each post would help. Many message boards have this.

Who is 'ish', and where are parts A and B of their post?
Having open and long running topical posts is a bug plus. And often they will have to go beyond two weeks without being added to.
Also having an easy thing to click on to get a link for an individual post would be very helpful. I used to often get that from going to the author's list of posts. But the new listings of posts does not work that way. As far as view source to get it, easier with IE than Mozilla in my experience. With about 70% of message boards this is just built in, place in an upper corner.
I sure as hell wouldn’t want to babysit this group of misfits but I join everyone in giving thanks to founder for his efforts to clean the place up. Now if you can just find a way to get rid of SJG.

But is a harmless troll really a troll? Or are the valuable contributors who just say things some people don't like?

Also, I have been searching for some old threads and some of them don't seem to work anymore.

Yes, those are pages that still need to be updated. It will be another week or so.

Trolling is largely in the eye of the beholder until it becomes repetitive and/or focused.
And I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Well, I guess I already subscribed.

Holla!!!!!
(A) Bumping dozens of them was a pretty frequent source of trolling and messed up the forum.
(B) It's giving SJG fits and restricting him from being serially off topic.
