Panhandling Outside Da Club

The Square Above Charlie Weaver
I was at a club that has $5 weekend daytime cover. I went to my car around the side of the building and a derelict asked me if he could "borrow" $5 to pay the cover. He saw the valet come around that part of the lot and melted back into the parking lot next door.

So should I have stuck with my usual approach with panhandlers and offered to go pay the cover for him? That way I know he spent my $5 to get into a bar and did not waste it on food or some such LOL!

Seriously, work on your pitch buddy. If you're really begging for cover, whatchygonnado when you get inside? Oh, wait. you're gonna take up space at one of the hi-tops!

I got a report from yesterday that the club is now making you purchase a drink as soon as you enter the club. My informant told the waitress that he was on his way to the bar but a bouncer stopped him on the way there and asked where his drink was. Another bouncer was seen escorting three 3 guys out for just taking up space. The club has received 2 citations for overcrowding and doesn't want any more trouble. I think this is a good move but your panhandler might have been SOL.

If you have to panhandle to get into the club it is the last place you should be. I'm not talking about spending your limited funds on better things like food and shelter. Can you imagine being in a club full of beautiful, young, naked women who are willing to suck and fuck for money and you can't even afford a lapdance??

    That would be torture.

Geez, time to find a new club if they are being assholes.

I'm kinda a softy when it comes to people begging for $$$ although I've gotten better about not giving in.

Not common to see panhandlers in the clubs I hit - I assume most clubs don't want them around harassing customers and keep an eye out for them if it's an issue.

If a guy asks me for some $$$ to get in the club I'd probably toss him a $20 so he can at least get in, get a drink, and at least see some titties - also dances in the black clubs I hit are mostly $5 and some $10 - I also feel a bit guilty about blowing 300 bucks in the club and then not tossing anything his way, although I realize I should not feel guilty and he should get a job but still feel for people that are in that position.

w.r.t. Follies; yeah, the crowds there are insane and it's def too-much.

Deciding who can stay in a club and who has to leave can get out of hand IMO - most bouncers in most clubs are meatheads often w/ zero people skills and many have a power-trip issue - I can see them starting to toss people for the simplest things and at times over a misunderstanding (particularly if you are not a known regular) - a while back it was posted either on the discussion-board or a review about the staff now almost always citing w/ dancers when there is a dispute over dance-count (which was not necessarily the case in the past) - seems the staff could perhaps start looking for the smallest of issues to toss people out - not to mention asking people to move from tables when supposedly someone has bought a bottle (IMO having VIP seating is not a good policy to have for such a small club w/ limited seating).

In follies case specifically, i think they should kick the bums out. They also need to keep non-lap dancing bums off the couches. If people are too cheap to pay a $5 cover and a drink(milk it if you have too), they dont have to not be in a strip club. They just dont need to be in follies with their overcrowding predicament. The one exception to this is the drug dealers. :)

Follies has to do something to keep the non-spenders out. The excessive crowd of people not spending anything is what keeps me - someone who will spend - from going there more often.

Yeah - Follies is kinda a unique situation - too many people of whom many don't know how to properly act in a strip club or don't care to properly act

I just hope they don't go the Oasis route and "reserve" the high tops for "VIP bottle service only". They already do that with at least two tables.

I stopped by Oasis a couple of weeks ago, daytime or early evening, and they actually had reserved signs at a couple of seats at the bar. WTF?

Sounds like a moneymaker for Oasis. Bring the high paying crowd in.

It’s a challenging situation - to be asked by a panhandler for admission to a club. I’d probably toss him a $20 - so he could get in and have a drink and tip.

I’m not sure if that would be looked upon negatively (by other patrons). If the panhandling patron runs out of cash - he might either take up space - or start asking other patrons for cash - and that could be unpleasant.

@gold I was on Follies on a Saturday as it approached night shift and they stared slapping VIP signs on almost all the tables. Bouncer said we were good since we were already there, but anyone else coming after us would have to pay.

@dre Those are for use by the bartenders to hold seats for regulars that let them know they're coming in. Just have to be friendly with bartenders to take advantage of those. ;-)

Holding seats for people that ate not even at the club is a douche move, IMO
