Oakland Ghost Ship Fire
san_jose_guy
money was invented for handing to women, but buying dances is a chump's game
I know that in other places, like San Jose, there have been crackdowns on similar sites.

36 people killed
9880 sq foot building, originally a warehouse
residents, and hosting entertainment, record producer '100% Silk'
Fire started on first floor and spread rapidly, no fire sprinklers.
Only 2 stair cases, not leading directly to exits, one very hard to find at all. Mountains of junk of all types in the building/
( Theatrical environs often like this. )
Building 20 days after the fire

Mountain View? People are living in motor homes in San Jose. It used to be on Stockton St. But since they decided to build town homes and yuppify that, they ran all the motorhome people out. Today this place is S. 10th St.
And yes, most of our homeless are working homeless, and according to the official count the average age of our homeless is 7 years.

Our economic system is a nightmare and a disaster. And our politicians are neo-liberals. It all sucks.

And of course communes could be a constructive solution. But usually they are violating building codes, or violating something.

Here are a couple of stories that mention the RVs:
http://people.com/human-interest/oakland…
There were also RVs located at the space, one of which was turned into a “studio/loft/nest” by an artist.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016…
The former resident of the warehouse said at least 10 RVs and trailers were inside the warehouse, on top of which people built makeshift shelters, studios and living rooms while using the vehicles for storage.
Yes, I see. Good pictures of the interior. Neat.
We have places like this in San Jose. I knew a guy who started one. One is called Ginger Bread House. Most of them though are large old houses, Victorians and Craftmens, not warehouses. They are habitated by artists and musicians. Some have said that the people have the income, they just get their money off the books and so they cannot verify it. And then there is also as always the larger work space issues which has driven the loft movement.
Well, that fire was a tragedy.
I read this years ago, a reprint of an old book:

Oakland is more wild and woolly than either San Jose or San Francisco. Likely for this reason, I feel an attraction to it.
Thanks for the articles.

How about posting some reviews of a club you visited instead of your AAMP trysts.

Often counter culture groups do use irregular living facilities. Their people can live and work in closer proximity, and they can thus beat the war of all against all over housing costs, which Capitalism is.
