Most of South Carolina seems to be in the path. Eclipse glasses for safe viewing are sold out in local stores I visited.
Hotels are all booked or almost all booked and a million visitors expected in South Carolina alone. How about you? I plan on watching.
"Monday, August 21, 2017: A solar eclipse will occur in Northeast Georgia on August 21. Motorists traveling in Northeast Georgia should expect spectator delays on all major routes, especially I-85 and US 23.
REMINDER: Parking alongside GA State Routes, US Routes and Interstates is not permitted during the eclipse. Eclipse viewers should find a safe place to park off the roadway system."
That might be interesting to see a bunch of day shift strippers walk outside in the dark to see a total eclipse. Lights on after a couple minutes or so. I wouldn't complain if they went outside topless. I heard some places were letting their employees go outside for this once in a lifetime event.
The eclipse is supposed to happen around 230 in the afternoon. School systems all over GA are extending their school day that day to keep kids in the building "for their own safety" and to keep buses off the road. I can buy the "keep buses off the road" part of the argument, cause there will be crazy stupid people trying to take pictures while driving, etc.
My daughter has move in day at USC in Columbia the next day, and this eclipse shit has complicated that all to hell. But, I will be in Columbia that Tuesday night - any "must see" clubs I should sneak out to go visit?
Absolutely. I started researching places to see the eclipse as soon as I learned of it. We're actually going to be staying near Charleston, since you mentioned it. I wanted to get further north and west, but the logistics didn't work out. If you are looking for glasses, I had to buy them online.
joc13 - Platinum Plus in Columbia and it's sister club Platinum West in West Columbia are the only clubs worth even mentioning. They used to be good clubs 2 years ago but have really gone down hill. There has been a little improvement but compared to Follies you will be sadly disappointed.
I would never go back to PP in Columbia. The music there is MUCH louder than any other club anywhere. My ears felt like they were bleeding when I left. Seriously, the music was at a hazardous level that would require safety ear protection in any other type of business. I would never go back.
I remember someone wrote a review for platinum plus in Greenville and said front row seats at Talladega would have been a lot quieter. However the Greenville club was a lot quieter than the Columbia club. I've had my ears start ringing from noise after visiting the Columbia club after one minute. I always brought ear plugs from work or drug store foam ear plugs to stuff in my ears whenever I visited the club. It was still too loud even with ear plugs in sections.
I've seen several partial solar eclipses. Unless you look at the sun with solar glasses, you probably won't notice a thing. Keeping people off the road during a partial eclipse is insane. I am in the path of the total eclipse this time. First time ever for me.
I wore gun range ear plugs to the Columbia PP a couple of times to make my point. The girls loved it but it changed nothing. A manager told me that the owner wants to create a party atmosphere. At 2PM?
