Srsly, they sell flawed, less than ideal gems and higher prices then they should so middle class girls can get a bigger stone. The saving grace is the clerks will haggle on price.
As for the story, I have 100% seen that mentality from management in the workplace and it's one reason why my wife no longer works in an office job like that. There exists a type of manager who hires women, but only if the fit one of two roles: 1: "potential" sexual partner, even if never acted on. 2. Mom/Mother/Hen figure. So I am not surprised to see #1 taken to its logical conclusion. Really I am not.
