Transactional Relationships and vice versa

Saturday, November 12, 2016 1:46 PM
Am I cynical or do you worry that all relationships are turning transactional whether explicitly defined or not. Whether this is a fallout of individualism or are we still good at defining boundaries. Tell me what you think after you read these articles. [view link] [view link]

ThereAndBackAgain, not noticed your posts before. Welcome to TUSCL. I'm sure you know that there is a discipline of psychology called Transactional Analysis. [view link] When I first read your post, I thought that was what you were talking about. Now I see that that is not what you mean. Those two articles are good. It was actually Frederick Engels who showed how marriage and prostitution are two sides of the same coin. He and a number of early socialists wanted to eliminate marriage and family. But beyond a point Moscow forbade such talk, and so as it is today, the differences between socialism and capitalism are much less than they may seem. But you are talking more about your own personal experiences. Well, women need to be able to live in this world, they need to be taken care of. And to me it does more and more seem like money must have been invented for handing to women. But having said that, I think there can be relationship forms set up which are more of a long term partnership, and are better than straight marriage / prostitution. SJG

@ ThereAndBackAgain. as you are right now scratching your head trying to figure out what san_jose_guy is rambling on about you should be aware that everything he knows about marriage consists of his father taking off on his mother after san_jose_guy got out of the mental institution and came home to live in the basement. then later when he bought himself a mail order bride who dumped him and got a restraining order against him. that's the extent of it

Some do, ThereAndBackAgain. I had a girlfriend who was a shepherd. I'd get her another sheep every time she had a birthday. We always had great sex out in the pasture. :)

Remember that in Europe, Latin America, and Asia, they practice the Wife-Mistress system. Though of course this is two faced and hypocritical, it still has advantages over how things are usually done in the US. SJG

All relationships *are* transactional, whether we like it or not. Everybody is trading something, whether it's something immaterial like feeling good about yourself, or material like cash.
