John, you're a self-proclaimed Stripper Fucking Expert. I thought you wore a cape and flew through the sky.
I guess you need the car for your Dream Strippers.
A Mexican-American girl who works at one of my favorite fast food places, sitting outside in her convertible Camaro today. Now most of the staff are Mexican-American's and 70% female. But this girl is by far the prettiest and most painted up of the bunch.
Someday I might have a car like that, showy and impractical, but not now. Not sure if this girl and I could get along.
Hers is probably V6, and so it is unlike V8's. With her V6, all the cylinders will sound the same, no scavenging. Plus overhead cams, variable valve timing, and with a very high power per liter high pressure injection system.
This is as opposed to V8's which have that signature sound, precisely because they don't work very well.
There are ways around this. Ferrari makes flat-crack, basically firing alternating bank, so that with the way the exhaust and intake are set up, there is no scavenging. So with a Ferrari V8 you can't tell by listening how many cylinders it has. I could have just one cylinder. This is how it should be.
There are ways to get this with the more common 4 way crank V8's, but it is much more complicated.
But still, that this girl should be paying for the showy car on her fast food salary is in my view silly. RWD is inefficient when it comes to weight and interior space.
And then my feeling is that convertibles should have effective roll bars. This pretty much means that they have to be 2 seaters.
Anyway, not sure if I could get along with a girl who is that committed to mainstream status display.
There was a stripper I got along with very well who had just bought a V8 Mustang, and she was showing it to me because she wanted to take me home with her in it. But strippers have more money to waste than fast food workers do.
The new Mustangs look great, like what you might see in a 2 + 2 Ferrari. Clearly fast back. But, as these cars are also daily drives, I say they should make a hatchback, and that that would be better. Hatchback is much more practical. The big thick window ( think 928 and 944 ) is heavy, but it is still worth it for the increased practicality.
Hatchback makes it more like a 928 Porsche. And remember that it is in the US that people like 911's. German management had planned to drop 911's back in the 70's In Germany they went for 928's. They didn't assign any special mystique to 911's.
The inspiration for 928's, a big RWD hatch back daily drive, I am sure was: en.wikipedia.org
Love to design a kit car to make something like that, not a replica, an original design.
I think Lamborgini Espada, front V8 is similar. Probably also spare time in front of engine to make more room in rear and also to put engine back a bit for better weight distribution.
Anyway, with the new Mustang, the design of it, they are aiming at this league of cars. But the Camaro and Challenger are not. Too tied to legacy styling.
But Mustang needs a hatchback version.

I've never liked Mustangs. They've gotten more aesthetically pleasing to me over the years, but I'd definitely take a Camaro over a Mustang. Also after speeding up the freeway in Detroit in a brand new Corvette (years ago), I have to say those are fun.

Good for Ford and the consumer. Of course, you don't stand a chance, John against my Vette. :)

The V8 Camaros are still push rod and no variable valve timing. They are also wider than Mustangs.
Mustangs have gotten real nice looking!
Almost like what a 928 Porsche should have been.

That is an amazing article, I would have never imagined a Mustang outselling a TT and a 911 in Germany.
I wonder if seeing a Mustang in Germany gets oohhs and aahhs over there like a Porsche gets over here?

Also, Maserati Khamsin has the spare tire in front of the engine. So there is more room in the hatchback area.

Mustangs are a more practical size than '66 GTO's, new Camaro's, or Chargers.
