Texting

This old fart only started texting last June when my kids gave me an Iphone 6 for Fathers day. I'm still learning but I have mastered how to send text messages using voice instead on typing the message. I even have my car set up to do it.

My question is which do you use? I have found that voice texts have the problem of misunderstanding me and type the wrong thing. So now I type all of my messages except for the rare times I need to send one while I am driving.

I usually dictate, and then correct any errors. Try talking very slowly and methodically. It may significantly reduce the error rate of dictation.

Good for you Shadow. I wish my Dad would learn to text, but he doesn't want to even try.

I like predictive text, where you start typing and it gives you the word choice it thinks you are going to type, so you can just use that word instead of typing every letter out.

Once you get used to that, it makes it a lot easier and faster. I never tried the dictation method.

Quit being such a pussy, while you're driving down I75 in your Mustang going 80MPH just steer with your knees and text using both hands.

shailynn - There are signs all over advising that texting while driving is illegal and I do heed them. I need to work on the speeding though. I caught myself doing 87 in a 55 zone. :)

When driving I throw my 2 phones in the backseat. It's the only way I can go without looking at my phone or txting while driving.

Why were you driving so slowly, shadowcat. I do 125 in 55 mph zones routinely. :)

Well, if you're doing 55 through Atlanta on 75 or around Atlanta on 285 you're going to get your ass run over by everyone.

I once heard a bit from a comedian that was hilarious.

What if texting had been invented before the telephone. After the telephone was invented people would say -- "This is so great. What a wonderful invention. You can communicate with someone by just *talking*. No more typing!"

    Funny but true.

Most of my texting is with strippers. Friends my age can't figure out how to text on rotary phones. I don't use voice to text because my texts are short and I don't text in my car.

I try to text as little as possible and average less than one a day. I also refuse to respond to any text from a client. Texting in my opinion is how idiots communicate. Add in lazy people as well.

"Texting in my opinion is how idiots communicate. Add in lazy people as well."

    That's probably correct.

True story. I only got my very first cell phone capable of texting years ago so a stripper could text me.

"Idiot" and "lazy" are excellent ways to describe a PL (me) and the stripper back then.

    sc,

    I speak then verify.

As for speeding, were it not for cruise control, I'd need JS69 to get me out of jail.

The company car I now have came WITHOUT it! I got permission to purchase an after market one and install it. Like you, I often caught myself flowing with traffic at 70+ in a 55.

I'll set it about 3-4 MPH over an am usually the slowest vehicle on the road! :)

Shadowcat, if everyone stopped doing anything illegal our hobby wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

"Texting in my opinion is how idiots communicate. Add in lazy people as well." While there may be a lot of idiots and lazy people that use texting to communicate the same can be said of internet message boards.

Personally, I have been texting since the late 90s because it was the only way to communicate with my deaf sister. Ever since mobile video such as skype has become more popular I find myself texting much less.

Skibum, if texting is how idiots and lazy people communicate, and your clients are texting you, does that mean your clients are lazy idiots? I imagine they're not.

I'm surprised by your statement. Sure, there are a lot of teenagers, idiots, etc, texting "Hey wazzzuup?". However, I think it's used by a lot of successful business people for efficient communication too. It's not a whole lot different than email, for short messages that need to be seen immediately.

Shadow, congrats on boldly stepping into the 21st century :)

Regarding texting when driving -- or any other time I'm busy, for that matter -- I've set up my phone with a number of pre-canned texts that I often send to strippers (or anyone else, for that matter) like: "I'm driving, get back to you in a bit", "Leaving the house, see you in an hour", "Looking for parking, see you in a few", "I'm driving, switch to voxer", "I'm outside", etc. You can do that too, it's pretty easy.

Whenever possible, with most people I'm close with, including my ATFs, I talk them into switching to Voxer or Snapchat instead. You can send private voice messages with both (with snapchat, you'll just send a video but cover the camera). I like this because I can just talk instead of type, and because I love hearing their voices. Voxer is by far the most convenient for sending voice messages back and forth, and it works exactly like a walkie-talkie of you're both live on the other end, but more strippers will have snapchat.

When I send texts, I switch back and forth between voice (which, as you've figured outout, sometimes gets t hingsn wrong) and a swype-style keyboard. I would never peck on a phone-sized keyboard, swype is 100x faster and more accurate

I have 2 smartphones and I use the on-screen keyboard. I don't text much though. Maybe 2-8 messages a month. I prefer email or telephone calls.

FWIW, I have found that AMP girls don't use email. Most don't even have an account. But they do use texting, and they expect you to.

I prefer email, and I use full sized keyboards. I am on lots of message boards, and I run many of my own. To the girls this is completely alien.

For most women it is all about the body and face to face. So they like clothes. But for most, the printed word is secondary.

My ex-wife was an exception in this area. She was into newspapers, online text, and email. But she was rare.

I actually hate talking on the phone. Always have. The only person I really text with is mrs sea. It's usually easier and quicker for us to text each other. Boring normal texts that would take far longer to call and say like "We need bread and milk on your way home." "Stopping to tan." "What do you want for dinner?" "I'm soaking wet and need your dick." Just normal everyday stuff that used to take 2-3 minutes minimum to call and say now takes 10 seconds and we don't have to stop what we're doing to answer the phone. I can check it when i can and if it's a grocery list it's already written down in the text for me. No more having to answer the phone and write down a grocery list or address or phone # using a pen and paper that I have to keep up with and then throw away afterwards.

Plus, she can't send me naked pics over the phone but she can take a pic and text it too me in a heartbeat. Nothing makes your day brighter than getting a quick text of some T&A from your wife. It's not always her either. She'll send a pic of some chica she saw somewhere or some naked chica online and tell me she'd loved to fuck her. Damn I love texts.

Cant top that..but will add its an invaluable tool in contract negotiation when you cant talk aloud..my favorites:
    -Stop talking
    -Time to leave

Lots of time saving and useful reasons for texting, as seaboardrr and rick33 point out.

Texting is cool in my view because you are not expecting the person to answer right away. So if busy they will just wait, and then when free text back. And then if you are then free, you call them.

An obvious for dealing with people like sex workers.

Maybe that's true but texting is nice because you can communicate with someone that you probably don't really want to talk to or have a conversation with!
