The Weekend- In the Night. (Strip Club Related)

I listened to the lyrics and watched the video and it seems like an anti strip club song. It's basically saying that strippers aren't there willingly and are depressed about doing their job. However we all know that the girls choose to be there and some may not like their job but most people in general don't like their jobs. Also some strippers don't mind dancing at all.

Also the song makes customers like us look like a bunch of bad people that treat girls disrespectfully. Also it makes people that run the strip clubs look like a mobsters.

What do you all think? In the Night by the Weekend is a pop song that came out a month or two ago and is played on pop stations all the time. That is my interpretation of the song but I may be wrong!

Well perhaps I should make this thread go in a bit of a different direction. Do you all think that society gives off bad stereotypes about strippers, and customers? I mean I know a lot of strippers do some type of drugs but it's not like they are being forced to strip, and a lot of them don't mind dancing. Also us customers aren't all bad people. I am well educated and go to strip clubs for fun.

UKfan: I started to write a little response on the marginalization and ostracizing of sex workers in general, and the deleterious effects that has on the wonderful women who make us feel so good and give us so much of themselves, all for mere money, but it bummed me out too much.

In other news, I was just teasing you about The Weeknd. I find that as I got older, I stopped caring about musicians. I still love music, but I honestly have no idea who sings most of the songs I love. I hear music I like, I Shazam it, I hit "buy" once it's identified. When I was younger I cared about musicians, now I don't give a fuck. I do know who The Weeknd is, but only because my daughter likes him and has told me his name, since we both love The Hills (we CRANK TH MOTHA FUCKIN BASS whenever it comes on)

Nah, it's not about that. This track is about the aftermath of sexual abuse

When my fave first dated her boyfriend she went to a party ( his friends) and she could tell the other girls were judging her a little for being a stripper. But they ended up loving her.

Subraman,
Yeah I understand. I don't really pay as much attention to the musicians as I do the songs. Also I do agree that it is kind of depressing to think about the negative stereotypes towards strippers.
Vikings,
Thanks for the heads up. It does seem like that is was the artist is getting at as well.
Mikeya,
It does seem like strippers get judged quickly and negatively. However as we both know they are just poeple trying to make a living.

I don't think "The Hills" is about marginalization of strippers at all. It seems to be about the consequences of drug abuse and sexual promiscuity. I certainly think that our society in general marginalizes both strippers and strip club customers even as hip-hop culture continues to glamourize them.

Being a 61-year-old conservative person of pallor, I'm not in the Weeknd's demographic at all, and yet I love his music. He just bubbled up to the surface of my consciousness in the past year or so with appearances at the VMAs and the American Music Awards as well as in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey". (Yeah, somebody dragged me to it.) I think he's one of the most interesting new R&B artists in many years.

Oops -- I commented on "The Hills" rather than "In the Night". My bad.
