Warning!

Avatar for Mr_O

Last evening I went to xnxx.com and this "virus warning" took obrt my computer. Couldn't close it and it just kept repeating to call a phone number. Of course I didn't do anything. I figured I had two options, just turn off the computer or figure a way to get it to shut down. Task manager seemed to do the trick.

Anyone else seen something like that?

I have gotten that on XNXX a couple of times and I had to restart my computer to get rid of it. There are a lot of Malware on that site.

shadowcat,

I hadn't seen it before, but I don't go there often. My computer protection didn't catch anything. However, it seems a pretty sophisticated hack.

Mr_O - McAfee didn't stop it either. I'm now using a service to clean my computer once a month.

I had something like that on my phone yesterday. I had to shut all the apps down to get rid of it.

I have seen it on my phone. I just "x" out of the tabs. It's annoying.

There is this "FBI Moneypak" scam that shut down your device and demand money, usually $200 to $500, to get rid of this malware, otherwise you may be prosecuted for porno including child pornography. To get rid of it yourself, simply clear history and web data. Some people actually fall for this scam and send money to the crooks, usually by pre-paid debit card.

bleepingcomputer.com, download combofix.exe and run it. Some of those leave stuff on your PC that doesn't show up till later.

Only one surefire way to prevent it, don't do anything online.

Never had that problem. But I use an anti-virus that is worth the money that I didn't spend (knew a guy in a computer store) and I believe it when it prevents me from entering a website with malware issues. That and I don't download porn on this PC. Get either ESet Nod32 or Kasperky. If they say a site is dangerous, believe it.
