"Theatrical Performance Only"

Have you ever seen a sign saying "Theatrical Performance Only" in a strip club? Any idea why they would say that? Was discussing with the Master, and we were not sure. Am confused on that.

This came up in my review of Atlanta club called Pink Pony. Here is the review:

Some clubs have to work around local laws by designating dances as a form of artistic expression or theater or whatever. While I've never seen a sign saying as much, I can see why a place would want or have to put one up, as it might be part of following the law.

With the air dances you mentioned, I wonder if audience participation isn't allowed any more, which really could make it "Theatre Performances Only."

I liked the prices for dances and beers mentioned in your review. Atlanta clubs are a good value.

It means no lap dances or private dances. Solely for eye candy now.

I've seen this mentioned in reviews for clubs out in the sticks. The tight ass Bible Belt states like Kansas and Iowa.
Artistic nude dancing is protected by freedom of speech in the Constitution.

Theatrical performances is pretty much all the Pink Pony has offered for quite a while now. Not sure how they stay in business with a government that despises them and Follies just a couple of miles down the road.

A couple of points. This distinguishes difference between "lap dance" and "table dance". In most Atlanta clubs there is NO difference! So we use the terms interchangeably. But not this club, as is pure table dance only. In fact the bouncers were watching the girls like hawks when they were doing the table dances.

The old Wild Goose titty bar here in LA was called a Cabaret Burlesque Theatre (or something like that) back in the day. It was neither a cabaret, theatre, nor burlesque like in any way. It was a divey, kinda sleezy neighborhood titty bar. But the sign out front sure sounded classy.

Theatrical performances are protected as free speech and public sex acts are not.

the Pink Pony has maintained that they are a theater and museum. this is to protect them down the road from any court cases against the city or county. they offer air dances table-side, and still offer private encounters formerly known as vip. the signs simply state the obvious.

The club I go to isn't like that. The dancers aren't play-acting they really, honestly do love me.

AJ & ski have to right, effort to seek shelter as protected artistic expression. They've had this signs in place forever. Legend has it that this SC and some of the old porno/sex show theaters use to have the girls read Shakespeare once per shift!

Man – air dances in freaking almost 2015 – that is what should be illegal; air-dances, not extras – wtf is wrong w/ this country.

I've been told that the Oasis, also in Atlanta, one night a week puts on some kind of a non stripper show on stage to show that it is a theatre rather than just a strip club.

Thanks for the comments. The politically correct terminology is killing me, 'private encounters' versus 'VIP', etc.!

Oasis has a trapeze artist on Saturday nights giving three 'educational' shows.

it's not politically correct Dawg, it's to avoid the VIP buzz word that's been written into some of the legislation.
besides, VIP has never been about Very Important Persons. whoever coined that term didn't know anything either.
