Jump to latestI had his baseball card. It was lost with all my Mantle and Mays cards.
I remember him all the way back to his playing days with the Dodgers.
He was the manager of the 89 Cubs, probably my favorite Cubs team.
Mr. Zimmer was the aorta of the Yankees during the good times.I'm sure Joe hurts right now as I do.The man had a wicked sense of humor as in when he got beaned by a foul ball in the dugout and showed up the next day wearing a combat helmet.I wish more Americans had his true grit.RIP.
I just watched tonight's NBC Nightly News. It featured a piece on Don Zimmer. (0:47 after a 0:32 commercial. See:
I'm a huge Cubs fans and will always remember Popeye Zim and the surprise Cubs division title in 1989.
Let me know when A-Rod dies

I saw him at the horse track in Tampa in the late 90's. It was in the spring and the Yankees train in Tampa so I'm guessing it must have been during his time as a coach with the Yanks.
I know he had some questionable dealings with gamblers so hope he never had a problem.
