I moved to Memphis in the mid 1980's, back in the days of Danny's, Cherokee Rose and a few notable establishments along Winchester and Brooks Road. Before becoming ordained in the Memphis SC scene, I had been to clubs all over the country, but had seen nothing like Memphis. In those days, a table dance was $6 and a couch dance was $10 and once or twice per hour, they would run two for one specials. This was even before the term lap dance was used. Dances in the clubs owned by both Danny Owens and Steve Cooper were always full contact and often FS too. I remember learning to wear a rubber into the club so that I could come twice and not get my pants all wet, seems the girls didn't appreciate the wet spot....
After Danny went to jail, Coopers clubs took top billing, but by the late-1990's a whole new level of club was established with the opening up Platinum Plus. Will write more about those adventures on another post.
Why don't you share your memories of the SC scene in Memphis back in the 80's and 90's. The experience escalated up until the time the city council effectively shut them down after a number of years of temporary closures after which they always opened again, sometimes with the same names and dancers, sometimes with new ones.
If anybody has any ideas on how to get Memphis back to the premier SC city, please share your ideas. Until the rules changed, dancers from all over the country would come to Memphis where they could really rake in the bucks whether they stayed long term or only for a few days at a time.
