Basketball Bet: Venoy Overton Arrested over Prostitution Promotion

Don't expect a basketball bet on this week's biggest loser, former University of Washington basketball odds point guard, Venoy Overton, who was arrested Friday.

Overton, 23, has been charged with a felony second degree charge of promoting prostitution, a charge that is punishable by a maximum of five years in jail and a $10,000 fine. The former basketball bet, is being held in King County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail pending his June 30 arraignment.

18-year-old woman was arrested May 20 when she offered to perform a sex act on an undercover officer for $200. Kent police then launched an investigation on Overton after the woman said she was strapped for cash, and had agreed to split the money with him after he told her how and where.

According to the charging documents, Overton offered the woman detailed instructions on how to earn money as a prostitute by showing her to walk “the track” on Pacific Highway South. He drove the woman to Kent, instructed her on how to walk, what prices to charge and how many tricks to turn before calling him to pick her up, according to the documents.

The 6 foot Overton ranks third all-time in UW history with 177 steals & 135 games played and fifth all-time with 390 assists, however was not considered a professional basketball bet since his eligibility was up.

So from a college basketball bet with a promising future, to a common pimp on the streets of Seattle; it all seems a little surreal, but wait, there's more.

Earlier this year Overton was accused of raping a 16 year old girl whom he had met on Facebook. After a lengthy 227 report, Overton was charged with a lesser charge of giving alcohol to a minor.

But that part that is most shocking was that during the entire investigation, he continued to play for the Huskies, which infuriated opponents. Only once he was given the lesser charge his coach, Lorenzo Romar, finally suspended him from the PAC10, but not from the NCAA tournament.

Washington only made it as far as the third round, losing to North Carolina, and ending Overton's chances of a basketball bet future.
