Three men accused of robbing a Detroit strip club told officers they did it because they needed the money, police said Wednesday.

One of the men -- a former football player for Kentucky State University -- also is charged in connection with robberies at three other Detroit clubs.

Bruce Vaughn-Capito, 22, and Kevin Williams, 23, both Detroiters, and Quan Dorsey, 22, a Detroit native living in Frankfort, Ky., were arraigned on 11 counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, 12 counts of armed robbery and charges of using a firearm to commit a felony.

All the charges stem from the March 19 robbery of the Player's Club on 8 Mile. The men were captured after fleeing in a white Oldsmobile Aurora, which police say is believed to be connected to three other robberies.

Police said Dorsey is the ringleader. A spokeswoman for Kentucky State University's sports information office confirmed he played football at one time, but said he is not currently on the team.

Dorsey also faces multiple armed robbery and conspiracy charges in three other robberies: Menjo's on Feb. 5 and Club Gold Coast and Tycoon's on March 3. According to police, the establishments were held up by several masked gunmen.

Detroit Sgt. Julius Moses said police are investigating those robberies. He said one or possibly two other people are suspected to be involved.

Police arrested Dorsey, Vaughn-Capito and Williams on March 19 after the Player's Club robbery. According to police, officers responded about 5:45 p.m. to a call of a robbery in progress. Officers saw the men escaping in the Aurora, which stopped in the area of Fairmount and Annott. The four occupants ran away.

Dorsey, Vaughn-Capito and Williams were arrested, and police recovered an AK-47, two handguns and cash. Police declined to say anything about the fourth person who ran.

In total, the gunmen took more than $50,000 during the robberies, Moses said. He said $8,000 was returned to the Player's Club, but the rest of the money had been spent.

Asked why they committed the crimes, Moses said the men told police it was because of a "need for money."

The men are to be back in court April 4, police said.

So, some of these guys had the advantage of attending college and turned to crime out of "need." A damned lie. They were hired by someone to pull these jobs to send messages to clubs that were not making their protection payments. Stupidly, the got caught. Plea deals and minimal sentences will follow.
