Anonymous tip leads to prostitution house bust

LYNN - Lynn police recently busted a house of prostitution on Rockaway Street, where numerous women are said to stay for a week at a time and then pass the money on to their pimps.

Christina Bonillia Vasquez, 29, of 3514 103rd St., Queens, N.Y., was charged with keeping a house of prostitution and was arraigned Wednesday at Lynn District Court by Judge Richard Mori.

Vasquez was released on personal recognizance and has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Oct. 5.

According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Lynn police, an undercover investigation of the business was done in April, based on a tip from a person who wished to remain anonymous.

A phone number of the business was provided, with the tipster having said the prostitutes are Hispanic, as are the customers. With that information, an undercover officer called the number and confirmed the location of 105 Rockaway St., #1 and that prostitution was taking place there.

Familiar with the operation as another business was recently busted in the city involving New York pimps, the officers spoke with others who were recently arrested and were told that the prostitutes used on Rockaway Street were in the country illegally.
The prostitutes are said to spend one week at a location before moving on to another house of prostitution and usually have an address in New York. Half of the fee charged is kept by the prostitute, with the remaining half being kept by the house. Officers learned that the person in charge of the house reports to another person, who is believed to live in East Boston.

On April 19, officers conducted surveillance on the location and watched as two men left the first floor apartment at various times. At one point, when the men walked back to the apartment, the officers walked over to the men, displayed their badges and were invited into the home.

Vasquez was found in a bedroom, along with three other men who were said to be in charge of the operation. One of the men said that a different girl comes to the home every week (that week being Vasquez) and that customers pay $30, with the prostitute getting half and the rest goes to him. He said he pays a person every Friday at 10 a.m. when they come to collect and that he doesn't even know who the person is.

He went on to say that every time a customer pays the fee, he hands them a marble as their receipt. The customer then hands the marble back to the prostitute, who keeps it as a way of keeping track of the number of customers they have serviced.

A baby wipe container was found in one of the rooms, which was filled with marbles, along with $200 in cash. A wallet was found nearby containing $1,175, along with a tin can containing $105.

A total of $140 was found along with a cellular phone of the man who provided information to police. That person has since been summonsed to court, but has not yet appeared.

In Vasquez's bedroom, police found $113, along with 12 marbles.
