Update on Detroit

Was in Detroit this past weekend. Turns out that within the city an ordinance has passed which makes mandatory a 6 foot rule between patrons and dancers- therefore no more lap dances in the city proper.

Disturbing trend emerging across the country. MI, KY, MO & KS all have passed or are considering legislation severely limiting strip club essentials. I'm not going to go off on a political rant here, but I am not sure who or what is driving these actions. I am entitled to feel-up a hot chick at a club whenever I want to, and no Rush Limbaugh "mega-ditto" shit head conservative small dick state legislator is going to deny me that constitutional right.

Can't speak for the other states, but Michigan is, and has been for a long time, solid democrat turf.

Are you being sarcastic, or are you really that stupid?

You can take the tunnel over to windsor for legal escorts or check out Flight Club or Bogarts Lounge in Inkster, MI.

I would be curious to read judyjudy's insight on the detroit regulations. She is a dancer there and has probably heard what club mgmt is saying to do.

So far, action in the suburban clubs continues as usual. I was at the Landing Strip in Romulus last week and had a great time. I haven't heard any rumblings about new restrictions in the suburban communities.

Hey MMDV26, do you have any idea what kind of town Detroit is? This is a City Council that is all black, all democrat and all anti-Limbaugh. The former Council president is married to John Conyers, House Judiciary Chairman, for goodness sakes. (At least as of now though she will enter prison this fall for a bribery conviction.) If you are going to accuse any political party or group for this unfortunate ordinance, at least take the time to find out what is really going on so you won't look like such an idiot.
It is by no means certain how this ordinance will shake out but there is no way right-wing politics had anything to do with it.

I tried to cover some of the history of this in my article on this site, posted on 2/24/10

To be fair, the recent Detroit law changes seemed to be motivated more by strict religious views from mostly black ministers than anything else. mmdv26's criticism might fit a lil better in KY, MO, and KS though.

As I've said before here, both extreme sides of the Left & Right have it all wrong when it comes to strip clubs IMO.

WOW! Didn't expect that reaction. I guess I really hit a nerve with the Detroit crowd. Too bad the matchbook ministers are putting their neighbors' stripper daughters out of work. LOL. No apology to the Rush Lovers if I pissed you off - you're already pissed off about everything anyway.

Chi_sam, the extent of sarcasm was limited the use of the word "entitled"; most of Detroit's population as well as it's auto-makers understand that concept all too well. Are there any car-makers actually in Detroit? And, yes, I am stupid for referring to MI, when I knew the 6-foot rule would pertain only to clubs within the city limits of Detroit. Sorry if I scared the readers in Kalamazoo.

Otto22, thanks for the recap of Detroit's political disaster. I said straight up in my post that..."I am not sure who or what is driving these actions." I would have been OK with an answer to that quandary, without the additional bullshit. The fact that you referred to ..."this unfortunate ordinance"...made me understand how personally you are taking this reduction of freedom. Pretty much my feeling as well.

In MO & KS, I know that the drivers of anti strip club bills at the state level are socially conservative, reclaim our constitution (arguing from it is like arguing from the bible), keep your assault rifles, religious right, white, mostly male (one of 'em walks like a girl - maybe he's gay), state legislators. Did I say they are pro-life, too?

I don't care who is behind the action in KY. I doesn't really matter. The outcome has the same chilling effect on the fine art of semi-public groping.

Here in Ohio, a state-wide set of restrictions were imposed by a fairly gutless legislature and Democratic governor who didn't have the balls to stand up to very small, vocal bunch of evangelical dipsticks who pushed this thing without any widespread public support. Up until the law appeared in the legislature, there had been no real outcry for reforming adult entertainment. The problem was that our elected officials could not bring themselves to defend this particular activity, even though it provides thousands of jobs and generated millions in revenue to a dying post-industrial state. Just as in Detroit and these other cities, the law's supporters dredged up the old arguments about drugs, crime and violence, even though no statistics exist that connect these things specifically to adult entertainment. It is a clear case of the minority ruling the majority (sorta like that health care thingee everybody was talking about) and will continue as long as people let it.

2 nights ago I was at the Pretty Woman in Detroit, this is predominatly a black club. Management did advise me of the 6 foot rule. I did follow the rules that were established. However, after midnight the rules seemed to become relaxed. Certainly not the way it used to be........less tips being that there were no LD'S.They do have a private room that I was asked to go to and was able to have some fun there..........as it turned out the tips were the lowest i have ever encountered since going out dancing..........
