I've been reading the reviews on this site for the bay area, and am surprised that it seems to be a longshot for having the kind of good time most of us seek. Can any of you recommend what is best in San Fran for a straight man?
How, unless you want to find out how costly things can get, keep it simple. Start off at the rail at Gold Club for the best-looking ladies, each gal expecting a $1 tip for her set. Their DJ is VERY good with bachelor parties, which could make for bonus entertainment. Then head over to The Crazy Horse on Market St. for lap dances (ten minute walk at most.)
Crazy Horse has, often times, good stage entertainer/audience interaction, though the girls aren't as attractive as The Gold Club. The girls give a good grind for $20 per song in the dance room, and the "extras girls" will solicit you then to upgrade to VIP (then again some will solicit openly in the main room.) VIP stalls are better than most clubs' similar arrangement, and each has a tissue box mounted into the wall. I suggest though you negotiate before ever entering a VIP booth with a gal. Your night should probably end at The Crazy Horse. But...
If you want to "live on the edge", walk 5 minutes west of Crazy Horse to Market Street Cinema. WARNING: The hustle factor at MSC is extremely high. YOU'RE DEAD MEAT if you enter the theater on the left side. Enter to the right and sit at the bar to take things in for a bit and I think things will work out okay for you. Just be prepared for former "porn stars" who want to take you on a "free tour" and are overly anxious to "come to your hotel room".
MBOT and New Century: within a block of each other and pretty expensive. Reports on this site of guys getting really ripped off at New Century. MBOT is "upfront pricing", but the sticker shock may have you ready to bolt back to Crazy Horse for value. Stick it out at MBOT for the experience and just tip $1s for stage shows.
Larry Flint's Hustler Club: Why does anyone go here??? Awful lap dance setup, with $20 minimal contact lap dances against a wall on stackable chairs and pretty visible to everyone in the club. They have a VIP room or secluded area, but I wasn't willing to spend $100 after the $20 experience sucked so bad. Broadway Showgirls was closed when I was in this area.
San Fran is expensive ... some review writers for Crazy Horse have even suggested using Craig's List rather than to pay Crazy Horse' prices, fyi.
Sorry I don't have any current advice to add to what CTQWERTY says. It's been sad to read about the decline of SF clubs over the past 10 years or so. I haven't followed very closely just how it all went to hell, but it seems like a change of mayors, a grandstanding prosecutor and the takeover of several clubs by Deja Vu all played a part. It makes you realize how easily other scenes that may be great today could turn to shit.
Just to give a inkling what's been lost: I spent several days in the clubs there on a visit back in 1996, when it was still going strong. Just fantastic. MSC was still a fun place once you made it past the gauntlet of hard sell ROBs. Even at MBOT, you could get amazing laps in the movie room for $10 that went on for 10-15 minutes. But the definite highlight was Chez Paree, unlike anything I've ever experienced. Every night was like an SC cyber-convention, with several dancers and customers I'd known from ASSC, some IMing together on laptops with other posters around the country. Oh, and the dances were great, too.
CTQWERTY speaks the truth. I've been going to clubs in SF recently and they just can't compare to the clubs in say, Las Vegas, or others similar. The Crazyhorse would be the best bang for the buck. $25 entrance when going at night, $20 bikini lappers, $40 topless, $100 full nude 3 song VIP. MBOT has a $40 night time entrance fee which is ridiculous!, and prices for things go up from there.
Not quite sure what samsung1 statement really means.
"Asians make up a much larger percentage of the population now than they did 10 years ago in San Fran. Other than that, I don't know much..."
If he'sr saying the bad asian drivers make it harder to get to the SF, thus making finding a good time a tough find, I apologize for my asian brothers and sisters!
But let's be honest, everyone loves asian girls, they're crossover sensations, especially at the strip clubs!
Chandler brings back some old memories with mention of Chez Paree and ASSC. I don't even remember the names of the ASSC major players anymore. I haven't had an opportunity to hit the clubs in SF for over 10 years, but the reviews make it sound like I haven't missed a thing. There was a time when MSC was actually honest dancers, cordial person at entrance to back area, and lots of fun...wall dances...great!!
mmdv: Remember any of these? ALS/Victor/SamKool, Bubba, DougLee, Saxbeat, RJ, Z Bone, LapMeRich. I hanged with most of them at Chez Paree, as well as the funniest poster anywhere ever, Bob "Pajama Pants" Smyth, and dancers Edie, Molli and Siren. Had some great wall dances at MSC, too!
chandler,
ALS, DougLee, Saxbeat, Z Bone & LapMeRich are very familiar names. Bob Smyth.. I was fortunate to have visited Chez Paree several times in the 95-98 period. Seems like it closed shortly after that. To me it would have to be listed in a SC Hall of Fame. Maybe for different reasons than Mons Venus or Treasures, but it was definitely ground zero for where the internet and SC's got together. And they had some fine dancers who gave very satisfying dances!! Might have gotten a dance from Edie. That was too long ago. LOL
bd, no I did not mean anything negative about asians in my last comment...if you read my recent review on columbus gold you know that I like asian strippers myself. Here is a quote to save you the time from having to find it: "The club has the most asian dancers out of all the clubs in Columbus, OH. I will gladly return to this club next time I am in the mood for some asian dancers. "
Thanks for the advice. Skipped the clubs and checked out an online classified ad place. Met a phenomenal Japanese lady at her place, and spent the most incredible and enjoyable time with her.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
