Food, Strip Clubs & America

Hitting strip clubs all over this wonderful country of ours can make a dude a hungry. And sometimes you gotta stop before or after a strip club at a spot that hits the spot. These are a few places I've hit a long my travels and they have my stamp up approval. I'm not really into fancy sit down too much, I really like the old school, throwback classic more casual intuition type places personally. When you got to dress up and sit down, with the bib and all that you start losing me.

Just to follow a long or help quickly find something in particular for the order, I sort of went from the West Coast over to Texas, through the south up to the northeast and over through the midwest. Instead of just going all random.

San Diego- Ortiz's Taco Shop. Go Cali Burrito.

Los Angeles- Al and Bea's in East LA. There's a line but it moves quick and is worth it. You just can't get better burritos anywhere. Also for LA any one of those random taco trucks on the street run by one of the mexican grandmas, you not gonna go wrong.

San Francisco- Molinari's Deli in North Beach. Place is from the 19th century, and it looks like it too inside. Any hero is great to get and in SF is famous for Dutch Crunch bread. For Coffee Andytown is awesome. Also a place NOT to go, Red's Java House it's been right out on the bay there forever, right by AT&T park for before or after a Giants game BUT the food just ain't that good. I respect the tradition though. San Francisco is wonderland for all this food stuff just have at it, do try to avoid the homeless attempting to empty a bucket of diarrhea on you though.

Portland- Burgerville is an Oregon fast food chain worth checking out.

Seattle- Dick's Drive In. Fast food, don't sleep on it though, really I think some the best fries you will find anywhere.

Las Vegas- Heart Attack Grill. Touristy yes. But they really give you a ton a food, biggest burgers out there.

Phoenix- It's not a Southwestern pick I know it's via Chicago (Phoenix has a lot of Chicagoland retirees) but Portillo's has got to be the best chain out there. And it's my go to in Phoenix. Italian Beef it is.

Tuscon- The big thing in Tuscon is the Sonoran Hot Dog. Can't go too wrong anywhere, road side carts work as well but the big ones in Tuscon are BK's or El Guero Canelo.

El Paso- The best thing in El Paso is at Kiki's get the brisket machaca, the green chiles just makes it awesome. One of the best meals I ever ate. And also the famous thing in El Paso in Chico's tacos, I'll let Gabrille Iglesias explain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWOfn9EF…

Albuquerque- Two places I'll stop at one or the other every time I'm in Albuquerque and they are also the two most popular restaurants in ABQ. Route 66 diner and the Frontier restaurant. At 66 get the Elvis Shake and at Frontier go Frontier Burrito.

Denver- Grandpa's Burger Haven. Old school burger stop in the mile high city. Beats the chains.

Santa Fe- Plenty of good Mexican I'll recommend Maria's. You also got La Choza and Tomasita's out there, can't go wrong.

San Antonio- You know what I think any stripper would LOVE to go to the riverwalk and go wherever, you can't wrong it's very cool urban park they go going on there. My vote will be Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia is where I took my last OTC in San Antonio because it was one of the only spots still open. To many of us nocturnal mongers hours do matter.

Austin- There's some big time BBQ spots in Austin, Franklin might the most famous but the hours are terrible and there's a line. I give my rec to a cart called Big Vinny's. Texas is brisket land.

Houston- I like Gatlin's BBQ in good ole' Houston.

Dallas- This is a PaulDrake recommendation that was on the money. Hard Eight for BBQ. Also if headed out to west Texas on I-20 from here stop at Belle's Chicken Diner house in Abilene on the way.

Baton Rouge- Louie's cafe is great diner spot big time for LSU folks.

New Orleans- Chef Ron's Gumbo Shop for some good Gumbo.

Mobile- Foosacklys for chicken

Panama City- Tallyho's drive in. Just old school bring it to your car drive in.

Clearwater- Lenny's. Best breakfast in Florida that I've found and best food in Tampa Bay

Miami- Mary's Coin Laundry. Old school Miami as it gets. Nobody knows english but the cuban sandwiches are what's are important here.

Fernandina Beach- T Ray's Burger Station. Good breakfast in the morning and good burgers around noon.

Atlanta- Martin's for some the best biscuit breakfast sandwiches I've had. Great chain. And DO NOT eat The Varsity. Very famous in Atlanta but the food is just not good at all.

Charleston- Rodney Scott's BBQ. Great stuff. More vinegar type bbq.

Columbia- Bernie's Chicken. Best fried chicken I've ever had. And right outside Columbia in Batesburg-Leesville you got Shealy's which is all you can eat BBQ which is pretty cool.

Greenville- Henry's BBQ

North Carolina- Not too much luck in the cities so far but some good outside the city spots include Lexington BBQ on the way down to Charlotte from Winston-Salem and Skylight Inn and B's BBQ in Eastern NC. And a quick shoutout to King's in Durham just beyond the outfield wall of the park where they filmed Bull Durham.

In the Tri Cities, Tennessee- Ridgewood BBQ. Eastern Tennessee institution. People real friendly. Not far from the Bristol motor speedway.

Nashville- Prince's Hot Chicken. Don't fuck up like I did and get the hottest one possible, I cried like a little bitch, it whooped my ass. But more milder is good. And for Breakfast head on over to Big Al's breakfast. Al is a great guy and old school set up in that he'll be chatting with you while he's cooking your stuff up right there.

Memphis- Elwood's Shack is real good and real popular. Donuts go Gibson's.

Virginia Beach- Just DON'T eat Chico's Pizza. Fugazi bullshit pizza.

D.C.- Ben's Chili Bowl I recommend

Baltimore- Crabcakes are pricey but a place called Pappa's it's worth it for at least one.

Delaware- Thrasher's vinegar fries in Rehoboth beach.

Philadelphia- A lot of late night escapades in Philly, after the strip club close there are some 24 hour options in town. You do got Pat's and Geno's (weekends, waaaay too packed) but I personally head to Philip's steaks right after I'm done strip clubbing before I head back up the turnpike.

New Jersey- Delucia's Pizza in Raritan but you gotta call ahead like a couple hours early it's a pain in the ass. You also got Rut's Hutt in Clifton for fried hot dogs and if your down in Wildwood, Cheesesteak from Russo's it's big as fuck, you get your money's worth.

Manhattan- Go Joe's for a late night slice, can't go wrong.

Brooklyn- Di Fara in Midwood great pizza sort of the agreed upon best Pizza in NYC although Dom the owner just died but they are carrying on his legacy. Italian Deli's go Lioni's or Defonte's. Also everybody in Brooklyn goes knows Spumoni Gardens just throwing it out there, all these give the classic Brooklyn experience.

Queens- New Park Pizza if your down in Howard beach and if your up in Astoria go Sorisso.

Bronx- You want to eat on Arthur avenue if you want the best of the Bronx. Mario's is my favorite spot. Deli go Joe's, get the FDNY sandwich and Pizza go Lou and Ernie's they are famous for their sausage pie.

Staten Island- Denino's is an old pizza spot known for their clam pizza.

Long Island- Pizza on the Island best is Salvatore's and they are also famous for their sausage pie. Late night food after strip clubs you got All American Hamburger is Massapequa is pretty popular and as is Cherry Valley Deli.

New Haven- Very famous for good pizza. Modern and Frank's are popular. I personally like Sally's Apizza.

Springfield- White Hut beats out fast food.

Providence- Haven Brothers is a good truck option open late after the clubs in Providence. Pizza I like Caserta.

Boston- Rondo's Submarine's in South Boston. And I like Regina Pizza in the North End.

Buffalo- A lot folks don't know about Buffalo style pizza but I'm a fan. Bocce Club Pizza is where they do it best.

Pittsburgh- I like me some Primanti Bros. sandwiches

West Virginia- One famous food in WV I didn't know this is Peperoni rolls. In Charleston one spot they got them good is the Pepperoni Grill.

Cleveland- Mama Santa's in Little Italy

Akron- Luigi's for pizza/italian. Been there forever.

Toledo- Tony Paco's downtown.

Detroit- Loui's (no e in there) it's the best example of Detroit style pizza out, awesome stuff in the Motor City.

Cincinatti- Don't sleep on Cincinnati Chili. To some it may not look that fancy but it is good as fuck. There's plenty of options the two big one's are Skyline and GoldStar, can't go wrong I personally prefer Gold Star. I've tried damn near all of them, none were bad.

Lexington- Ramsey's Diner get the Hot Brown. Famous Kentucky thing

Louisville- Ollie's Trolley or Dizzy's Drive In for burgers

Fort Wayne- Fort Wayne's Famous Coney Island for chili dogs

Chicago- Where to begin, Johnnies Beef for Italian Beefs, old school, cheap, everything is good. Any of these hot dog places in town are awesome too, they are just not down with ketchup. For deep dish pizza I like Gino's East or Lou Malnati's. For sit down, but pricey go Gene and Georgetti's one of Frank Sinatra's favorite spots when he was in the Windy city.

Milwaukee- Solly's Grille for butter burgers or Milwaukee Brat House for brats. Also for the best cheese curds I've had were at a Brewer's game at American Family Field.

Quad Cities- Frank's Pizza for Quad city style pizza.

Minneapolis- This is a Huntsman recommendation special. Matt's Bar has a burger called the juicy lucy where the cheese is in the burger. It is real real good, probably the best burger I've had.

Omaha- Runza's is a pretty unique chain, I never even heard of a Runza but I like them.

Tulsa- Hank's Hamburgers for the throwback spot on Tulsa.

Kansas City- Tons of great BBQ. Joe's Kansas City get the Z man. Slap's, Gate's and Arthur Bryant's all good too. Another place to hit is Town Topic for some late night food after the shitty KC strip clubs.

St. Louis- You gotta get some Toasted Ravoli in it's birthplace on "The Hill" also where Yogi Berra grew up. Any of those place's Charlie Gitto's, Favazza's, Anthonio's, Mama's etc. all serving up good stuff. Also stop at Gioia's deli. Whatever sandwich you get will come with Provel cheese, which is pretty rare outside St. Louis. Although AVOID St. Louis style pizza at Imo's. Cracker pizza? Get the fuck outta here with that fugazi bullshit.

Anyway that's just some spots so far, always looking out for more and recommendations are always welcome. Food is such a big part of these strip club journeys, if the strip clubs suck you really need something to hold on to, to make it feel like it was all worth it. Some of these stops above sure as hell did. Thanks for reading and if you agree, disagree or been to some of these places as well, would love to hear it.

Fun to read. Need an article about food INSIDE strip clubs. Most of the time it is like any other bar food and a limited menu. Gold Club Centerfolds has had the same menu for decades. In my truck driving days, there were a few that had excellent meals available. Since I rarely went the same route twice, I didn't bother to note the food unless I wrote a review on the club and personally ate there. Now I wish I had created more of a record.

Good stuff. I used to travel extensively with my old job back in the day. Glad you mentioned Charlie Gito's in St. Louis, one of my favorite Italian restaurants.
Other recommendations off the top of my head:
    San Jose: Original Joe's.
San Francisco: The line of fresh seafood stands in Fisherman's Wharf.
    Nashville: Jack's Bar-b-Que
Dallas: Sonny Bryan's Bar-b-Que in the West End.
    Tampa: The Taco Bus.
    Philadelphia: Sonny's Famous Steaks (cheesesteaks)
Chicago: Al's Beef (Italian beef sandwiches)
Columbus: Tip Top (pot roast sandwiches)
    Detroit: Bucharest Grill (chicken shwarma)

Muddy article has a lot of meat in it. It would be helpful to have posters elaborate on places near clubs or major hotel blocks that are best for lunch, or are good 24 hr places for when most people visit clubs. I offer the following:

LAX: Proud Bird- Recommend Lunch Buffet weekdays, Sunday Brunch on Sundays. Located near the end of LAX runway 25L. Reservations recommended for Sunday brunch. Has plenty of aviation relics/pictures.

Tampa- Plenty of eateries in Westshore area (nearest clubs Thee Dollhouse, Penthouse Club). If steak is your thing, Longhorn and Ruth's Chris are on the same block. Obviously differing price structure, IMO Longhorn beats Outback hands down for that price range. I think both places close 10pm weekdays, 11pm weekends.

Seattle- 13 Coins near Seatac airport hotels may still be around. After a short closing, they're open a bit after midnight. More in the realm of fine dining place vs a Denny's kind of place.
