I remember the days when Heartbreakers in Bloomfield was THE place to be. I was such a regular that Joey used to let me stay after hours and I would routinely drive the girls home for free just to get in their good side. When I say anything goes at Heartbreakers I mean ANYTHING. Not only was it a sure thing, but the girls were smokin, the barmaids were sweet and attentive and the music was on point. There were so many nights when you could barely make your way through the crowd and everyone was having the time of their lives. I even learned how to speak Portuguese just so I could make a good impression with the dancers. Boy was that a good idea. I would have 3 or 4 beautiful girls by my side the entire night, would routinely get free rounds and even lots of free dances with LOTS of extras. Joey would take me to other bars(mostly in Newark) to help him recruit talent and I never had to pay for a drink. Making inroads at Heartbreakers paid off because wherever I went in North Jersey I was sure to run into at least one girl who I knew and would sit and have drinks with me all night. Those were definitely the good old days. Just like every good thing, it came to an end. After a couple raids, things began to slow down and it wàs never the same. For a while, Clancy's was a pretty good substitute but that didn't last. The Blue Goose had it's moments but never reached the pinnacle I had become accustomed to. Eventually, I gradually started going out less. Jobs changed, kids were born and before I knew it all of that was 20 plus years in the past. Life changes but I will never forget those nights at Heartbreakers.
Heard lots of stories about that place. When I first became aware of its existance, I worked for a major national bank that had a branch just a few doors down, and I was always afraid of being spotted, so I never went in. What a shame. It must have been a real classic house of debauchery.
