Unexpectedly Not Terrible, But Pricey
Discotheque Lounge is almost directly across the street from Vegas Showgirls, one of Augusta’s two remaining strip clubs, both of which were owned by the recently deceased Whitey Lester. The city has been trying to close the clubs for years, but Lester was grandfathered in. According to local news stories, now that he is no more, these clubs will also soon be no more because Lester’s liquor license was not transferable, and the city no longer issues liquor licenses to clubs with nudity.
This is apparently the “flag ship” club of the two, but that’s not saying much. Both are dives, but Discotheque is much bigger, easily two or three times the size of Vegas Showgirls. Both are run down looking and clearly saw their heyday decades ago.
The doorman at Discotheque collected a $5 cover and advised me, like the doorman at Vegas had, that there was a one drink minimum and no touching. I thought the $7 beers at Vegas had been outrageous, but the beers here were an astoundingly expensive $9.25.
